Hello I would like some advice regarding the medication im taking. Im on serouquel, avanza, abilify and diazepam-valium and am having terrible side effects but can work out which one is making me feel like a complete zombie. After i take my seroquel and abilify about an hour later my heart starts to race,my body feels very heavy and all i do if i sit down is start nodding off meaning i cant keep my eye's open as all i want to do is sleep and that's not in my character as im usually very active. Also i cant stop eating and that too is getting out of control i eat all day long and am also starting to get takeaway foods which i normally would not do either. My weight has gone up dramatically and im hating it but just cant seem to stop myself. I dont know if it's the medication doing it or could it be comfort eating,as i feel better after i have a good binge, but the next day all i want to do is go on a diet but it wont happen as i just cant stop myself anymore!!!!! My mood is also another issue as i have so much anger building up inside and im at the point where im going to explode and it wont be very pretty infact i will be very nasty as that's how im also feeling. Im sad, lonely, jealous of people that have a partner as i want one but cant. Im not sleeping well at all,im also getting leakage from my ileostomy every morning and i ahte waking up covered in crap!!!!! I also need some time out on my own for a while but have looked into respite care homes but cant afford it at all as they are $100.00 per day or $575.00 per week which is more than i earn on my pension?? What to do hey as i have no idea anymore...

Please call your doctor. Those are side effects that should recieve medical attention.

hi beverly, sorry about what's happening. from being on seroquel for some years now i can safely tell you that it is very sedating, and if taken with valium you would definately be wanting to sleep. yeah, talk with ya doc. mirtazapine (avanza) is also a tad sedating, thus some doctors use it as an adjunct for sleep. i use seroquel just for sleep, thus if you are using it in the morning maybe it would be better suited at night? check it out with ya doc. sorry about the respite situation, definately sucks!! i hope things improve real soon, and know that we are here for you. with loving compassion,
    jamie.

I think Jamie is right, see if you can take your seroquel at night instead of the day. and if that is causeing hunger, maybe you will sleep through that and not be hungry during the day. The abilify does not make me hungry. So far anyway. lol.. You never know what is around the corner.

I would talk about the anger issues too. One of your meds might be causing that. Or you might be able to take something for that, though you probably are sick of taking meds and hate to add something else to the mix. But the abilify helps me with that. What dose are you taking, maybe you could take a little more. I Know that your family is contributing to that too. I hope that you are dealing with that okay. Stay away from them as much as possible. I wish that you could find a place that you could move into. Jealousy is a horrible feeling. I have been through that before but found out it stemmed from my own insecutities. Are you still going to therapy? If so that is something that you might want to address.

I hope that you feel better soon. Know that we are all thinking about you.

    Hugs, Karen

I have taken seroquel since 2000. I have found if I take it on an empty stomach really close to bedtime that I can go to sleep and not eat. It does make me hungry and I mean hungry for junk...chips, cookie, chocolate, etc. I take seroquel for sleep because it is very sedating. I have also found that my cholesterol is way high since taking seroquel...any of ya'll see this? I have also tried to stop the seroquel, but had to go back on it because it made me VERY sick....my doctor said I needed to be weaned very slow if I ever want to quit taking it. But, I love my seroquel. I am calmer and not as angry as I was. I have never posted here, but have been reading. I struggling with depression, but it is circumstantial depression. I have a chronic health problem. I may post soon to see about getting some support. You people seem very caring and supportive. Tracy

hello and thankyou all for ur responses to me. I will certainly take all of this up wih my pdoc on Monday as i couldn't get in any earlier. So im still eating like there's no tomorrow and am putting the weight on and that's very depressing to me also. And i know that i cant just stop taking the seroquel or the abilify as i have to be weaned off of it all but am not ready to do so????
My anger issues are getting worse and im flying of the handle at the most stupid thing's. I certainly think and know in my heart that i need a hospital stay for a while to get my life sorted out but i just cant do it as last time i was in there i was assualted and sexually harrassed and just the thought of that happening again is very scarey for me,so i really dont have a choice but to keep trying on my own!!!!!! Thanks again to you all for ur input for me.

    Beverly,

I am sorry that you are going through such a rough time. The abilify should be helping you with the anger issues. Give it a little time, I am sure it will help.

Best wishes to you my friend.

    Hugs, Karen
