hi pokey, i think this was a big thing in your bf confiding this in you. maybe he thought that maybe it would be too much on you. stigma in the community about depression is still somewhat detrimental to those with a depressive illness. for you i would strongly suggest that you advise him that you are here for him, and i hope he will, of which it sounds likely that he will advise you when he is in a bad place and requires time also. a good thing for you to know is that it is a medical condition, and to let him know that. communication is key, it is everything in a relationship, regardless of depression. depression is extremely common, here ( australia) 1 person in 4 will develop a depressive illness and or have a episode of such at least once in their lives. i wish you well, you have to a great place for support. with healing compassion, jamie.

Hi Pokeybear,

Welcome to the HealingWell Depression forum. I am glad taht you have joined us. You will get a lot of support here.

I think that the best thing that you could do for your boyfriend is 1) be there for him when you can and 2) encourage him to go to counseling.

You can only do so much when somebody is depressed. And I think you are doing the best that you can. When somebody is depressed they have to look for help. Being that your boyfriend did confide in you about his depression, well that is a good start. But getting him to go to counseling or to his doctor and discuss it would be wonderful. But you can't make him, a suggestion would be the place to start.

Hugs, Karen

Herbs can be safe, but please consult with your doctor before you try them. JMHO
