So I've been in counseling for a few years now, so I know how it goes.
I recently had a bad appt with my current counselor.

They thought that I was lying about what I was saying, and said that the things didn't quite "match up." I said tht I wasn't lying(which I wasn't) and they were still skeptical. Then they said that they thought I needed to lose weight..

I'm not even "big" or anything, who is my COUNSELOR above all people to say that to me?? Way to raise my self confidence...

So I canceled my appt and I'm not going back. I have another question, I'm also currently seeing a psychiatrist in the same building and Im on medication. If I cancel my appt with the psychiatrist and never go back, is that ok? Because I really don't want to set foot in that building again...

Taryn,

I would hook up with another psychiatrist or other type of doctor who can prescribe you your medication before I leave the psychiatrist. You don't want to go cold turkey off of your meds. That is no fun at all. It is down right tormenting. So please get set up with another doctor that will prescribe your current medication.

I think if you are uncomfortable with the situation, by all means, find another doctor. But get the doctor first before you leave the current one.

I am sorry that the psychologist told you you should lose weight. I am sure that didn't help your self esteem any. But people make mistakes and maybe they didn't mean to say it as it came out. Always try to give the benefit of a doubt if you can. What were you talking about when they said it? That is if you want to say.

Anyway, I do want to stress about seeing another doctor so that you can get your meds. Be careful. Don't quit cold turkey.

Take care.

Hugs, Karen

Oh ok. So even if I still have this medication, I can just not go anymore?

Yeah, im sorta disappointed because I always wanted to become a therapist, and now Im really discouraged because i look at them in a new light..

Any counselor who would say this: "they thought I needed to lose weight.." is not one who you want. That is sure sign that they are not there to advocate for you.

I agree with your choice save for the medication aspect.

Whoa! on that one. We can get very sick if we stop medications. Please talk to the doctor about your medication as to where you can get it, what happens if you stop etc.

In other words-slow down. Do not throw the baby out with the ba***er. Take stock of the situation and then move on to a new treatment center.

Making a statement about our weight sucks but I am big and get that a lot. Sadly from some who ought to know better but I let it slide.

part of treatment involves tough questions and sometimes resentments help us grow. For example the person telling you to lse weight. Maybe it was a chance for you to work on setting a boundry for yourself. Perhaps you could have responded with "I resent you saying that" and see where it went. Yes this is hindsight and easy to see that now. Fact remains if you are not comfortable then walk away may be best.

I wish you well but do take care of the medication issue

God bless

Glen
