i am a nineteen year old and i have always had one problem: instability of emotions. i do not feel constant about anything but whatever i feel, it is genuine. it applies to everything and everyone. i care for someone so dearly and a few days later, i am insensitive and indifferent, they don't matter to me anymore, but neither is that constant. i feel this way about friends, family and even things. i have had a troubled life and i have been trying to deal with conflicting emotions for years now. i understand my problem but do not know how to deal with it. i have lost quite a few people who i cared for, who cared for me and i am now seeking help.
i also was into drugs and quit about a year ago. i have also often felt the need to hurt myself just so i have a vent for the disgust i feel towards myself for being involuntarily unstable.

Hi Zia,

Welcome to the healing well depression forum. It sounds like you get bored with things quickly. Could that be the case with you? I don't see any other reason why you would become indifferent to things so rapidly.

If I were you, I would definately talk to somebody about your interest in self harm. As we are not suppose to discuss it on the forum. I am speaking of somebody professional such as a therapist or a counselor.

It is normal to have lasting relationships with people and things. that is why I think it sounds like you get bored easy. Do you make friends easily? Once you learn the value of a good friendship, you probably wouldn't act the way that you do. And what you are doing is probably going to make you some enemies. Are you mean to the people or do you just stop coversing with them? I know people that actually become good friends with others and then start to treat them meanly. I stay clear from people like that.

I hope that you do talk to somebody, I am glad that you are clean now. We aren't suppose to talk about that either, but wanted to let you know that I am happy for you.

Take care, have a great weekend.

Hugs, Karen

no, i do not stop talking to people and i am never mean to them, it is not that i get bored, i feel totally attached to a person at one time and then i feel insensitive. however, this also comes around and i begin to feel the same about them as i did before. it is more like an on and off thing. it keeps shifting. it is not that it i lose interest. just that it is never constant. i care and then i dont and then i do again. my family and friends have tried to help me and some have stuck with me through it all but i am still struggling to deal with it because i understand it is hard for them to deal with it as well.

Maybe that is just the type of person that you are. And as long as you aren't hurting anybody or yourself, I guess it is okay. You say that the relationships come back around, so I don't see anything wrong with the situation.

If it bothers you a lot, I guess you could talk to a professional therapist about it. I guess I just don't quite understand what you mean about insensitive. Like I say, you aren't hurting the other person in any way, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I hope that you find the answers that you are looking for.

Hugs, Karen
