So back in May I got mad at my counselor for something she said, but I think i might have interpreted it the wrong way. I never mentioned to her that I was mad, I just looked really closed off. So I made a final appointment at her request, but then I called up and canceled and haven't spoken to her since I saw her at that other session.

I'm going through a lot right now, and I really feel like I need to go back to counseling. It would have to be at my school though, and she's the only counselor I would want to go back to. The reason for that is that I don't want to sit down with someone new and start explaining EVERYTHING alllll over again.

My question is..because I canceled that last appointment with my counselor so i never technically had a "last appointment" with her, wouuld it be weird or anything if I started going back next month? Would she ask me anything about canceling do you think? Honest opinions please. Do you think I should go back?

taryn, yes go back. the unresolved will be solved. yes she will ask. esp if she is worth her weight as a 'good' counsellor. i think this would be very cleansing for you both, thus more and productive therapy will begin. tell her the absolute truth. i have done the exact same with my shrink once. maybe twice, and another with another shrink. i was a difficult client a times!! drove 1 nearly nuts, well a little anyway!! i feel this is a good move, going back, i say a big YES. okay, bye for now. cheers, jamie.

Don't be nervous, just make the appointment. I am sure that she will be glad to see you again. And she might have forgotten the past cancelation too. Then you wouldn't have to explain it, unless you wanted to.

I think it is great that you have somebody that you feel good about and feel comfortable going back to. I say go for it.

Hi Taryn

Yes I agree, I think you should go back, especially if you were comfortable with her. It's probably a sign of good match if you do disagree with something that she said. She will probably ask you about the cancellation but just be honest and tell her why.

Good luck, I hope it all goes well.

Harringtion,
Why would it be a good match if we disagree? I'm sure you're right about this but I'm just curious.

And thanks everyone for your support I will go back. I need it.

Well I look at this way, I'm sure you don't agree with everything that your best friend says all the time, do you? But you still think of her as your best friend. So the sign of a good relationship between you and your counsellor is if you disagree with her sometimes and question what she says sometimes. I know I do, I don't agree with everything that is said to me and I tell her, in a nice way of course.

I hope this answers your question and I'm glad you are going back to her and tell her that you did disagree with whatever it was she said.
