i have suffered with depression on and off for 7 years now , but at the moment i am having a very bad episode, i feel i am worth nothing , cant be bothered to do anything and just want to sit in my own four walls, i am a single mum of 2 girls and their dad used to tell me i a fat , ugly and no man would want me , i just cannot get this out of my head , i have just ended a relationship with a chap who is at the moment going through his own problems , i know he cant give me what i need in a relationship cos of his own problems at mo but in my head its because im not worth anything and have nothing to offer, friends and family say i need to snap out of it but its easier said than done , i am constantly crying and sometimes cant stop , any help would be greatly recieved , (already been on prozac for seven yrs and my doctor is brilliant , i just need some outside help )

Hi, sorry you are suffering so much....and folks just telling you to snap out of it, is not so helpful.

Even though your doctor is brilliant - psychiatrists and GPs are not always the best at counseling. It really sounds like you need to be referred to a counselor so you can get those crummy tapes out of your head that that guy put in there about your having nothing to offer - etc.... You have much to offer, I can tell that in your post. By the way, I am a chubby girl too, and my hubby has never said a thing about it. Size has absolutely nothing to do with who you are.

I am on prozac as well (fluoxetine for 19yrs), and it is a great drug, but it sounds like you could use an anti-anxiety med right now to help you through this rough spot.

Please make a call today to get a counselor. You will be glad you did.

Hi Htd14

Welcome to the HW Depression Forum, I am so pleased you have reached out for help from us and we will try and help you and support you as much as we can.

I wrote you a long post a little while ago but it logged me out and I had to log back in and I lost the post, so I will try and remember what it was I wrote.

You have heaps to offer those two little beautiful girls that you have, you are their world at the moment, you're the parent that has stuck by them, who lives with them, teaches them how to become good adults, you're the one putting food on the table and tucking them into bed at night, so please don't ever doubt that you have nothing to offer, just look at your girls and that thought should go straight out of your mind.

Don't even give a thought to what the ex said, he was just hitting out at somebody and it happened to be you in the firing line. I think your self esteem has taken a huge battering though, so maybe seeing a counsellor and going on some meds might be good for you. You'll pick yourself up because you are strong and those little girls need you to be strong and healthy and thinking straight.

I hope you can go to the doctor and talk to him about seeing a good counsellor and also the meds. Keep posting and let us know how you are going.
