This is the first time I have posted on this forum. I usually am on the fibro forum.

I have had a history of depression, but have been doing OK for quite awhile. I have been off meds, and even felt I could discontinue therapy. Things had been going along OK.

It seems that it has come roaring back. I am facing some major life changes (possibly retirement), and am anxious about them. I haven't been sleeping well, and it is getting very difficult to cope.

Any help anyone could give would be much appreciated.

Hope

Hi there,

The disruption of your sleep alone could be causing your discomfort.  I would talk to your doctor and see what they recommend.  It might be something as simple is sleep medication.  But for me that would be the place to start.

It sounds like you have a lot on your mind right now with the possible retirement coming up.  I am sure that is playing a part in the way that you are feeling.  It could be causing anxiety which is closely related to depression.

I would start with your family doctor and go from there.  Remember to take things one day at a time.  It makes life go by much easier.  Try not to worry if you can.  Know that we are all here behind you.  Keep posting.

Thanks, Karen. I appreciate your response. Depression is such a lonely time.

You know, I was thinking of calling my dr. tomorrow during my lunch break at work. I am hoping I can get in soon, because you're right, the waking up very early and not getting back to sleep is making feel terrible. I feel very edgy too sometimes.

Thanks Jamiee -
Called dr. today and can't get an appointment for about ten or 12 days.

Not sleeping well - it is just hard to cope and keep going. It helps to post here.

One foot in front of the other, but sometimes that seems like alot.

Hi Hope,

I am glad that it helps you to post here.  Just take things one day at a time for now.  That is all we can really only do.  But when you think about it, it takes a lot of pressure off.  Taking life one day at a time that is.

I hope that you can hang in there until your appointment.  Actually 12 days can go by fast.  Here it is almost August.  I couldn't believe it was already the 29th today.  Where did July go??? lol...Time sure does fly sometimes.

Keep posting, especially when times get hard.  We are always here for you.

I think what's feeding into the depression too is that stuff I thought I had worked on is all coming back.

My self-esteem right now is low, and the feelings of loneliness seem more and more intense.

One day at a time - good advice.
