I'm suffering from depression since December 2009 ! I do started falling into it since a long time before that, but was diagnosed with it after I met a psychiatrist !
Initial one month I was on medication,I was put through tests and even counselling. Eventually my parents stopped it all,and asked me to deal with it myself.
It's pissing me off,'caz I know how horrible and out of control it feels, they ignore me when I go low and in pits and try to ask them to help me,saying oh thats her usual bullcrapting attack ! I feel hurt. It's not only parents but even my boyfriend who says "I have been through this and I have been through that, whats the big deal !!!!! you have your family, your love, you friends....what more do you need?"

darn it I myself don't enjoy being depressed, feeling sick.....

Why are people who are depressed ignored....or worse looked down upon? why treated like lunatics?

hi annie , im sorry to hear that yr parents and boyfriend are not being supportive , everybody deals with things in different ways and everybody at some stage of their lives will suffer with depression, some worse than others, u say that yr parents stoped the help - how old r u - can u get help without parents being involved, perhaps u need to talk to someone about what is making u feel depressed , please see yr doctor and ask for help , keep posting and let us know how u doing ??

helen

ps people who have depression are sometimes ignored and treated like lunatics , its because so many people dont understand what its about , people only understand when they have suffered themselves ,,

Annie,

Know that I am thinking of you. These guys are right, when somebody doesn't suffer with depression, they have no clue as to what you are going through.

Maybe take it upon yourself to get some help. You are old enough.

You will get through this, we will help you.

Hugs, Karen

Annie-
I got to also say they are correct. I have ask this same question many times myself. Until someone has been through it or been very close and tried to understand it no one can understand how we feel. I'm not sure I really understand how I or anyone else with this feels. Anyway, sorry your parents don't seem to understand. You do have a support group here though.

Take care,
Bill

Hi Annie

Just wanted to confirm what the others have said, people who don't suffer with depression don't understand it and in a lot of cases don't want to know about it.

Please know that we are all here for you, we all understand what you are going through and we all care.

I wish you luck in the future and please keep posting and let us know how you are going.

Kind regards

Hi everyone,
Thanks alot for replying. I'm 21. I do know what you mean, everyone has different ways of dealing with depression,my boyfriend is in another city,so I really don't expect him to see what I go through, though I wish he would care..... But my parents? they see the way it turns me into a zombie.... I cant have food,im sleeping all day.....I'm unable to find a psychiatrist in my area who I can afford alone.

Thanks alot for being there,it feels good to know there are people somewhere far away who understand you though people close to you choose to ignore it !

Hi
I'm the same.... Dealing with new things. It's getting to me. But I'm trying to stay away from things harmful for me. It's frustration I can't explain.
