Jamie,

Try to relax. This is most important. Breathe. You know that old anxiety is at the door. So use techniques to beat this. Did they say why they are doing an inquest? I think that they just want your help. so try not to get too worked up about it. It isn't like you did anything wrong. Be calm, take your time answering questions, and think about what they are asking you. No quick answers. Do the best that you can. Do let them know that it effects you emotionally. You will be okay. And we are here to make sure of that.

Hugs, Karen

yes karen.

it is about her pain management.
about her use/abuse of medication and other
substances. medication in complex patient,
drug interactions including cannabis,
prescription, dispensing and enforcement
of permit medication.

it is not a trial or anything like that, nor is it about attributing blame to any party. but it is in a court-room, this part freaks me out.

thx 4 your support,

Dear Jamiee,
I know this must be very frightening for you. Court can be intimidating. But try to look at this for what it is and will be happening. You will be there just to provide
information. You did nothing wrong. I do not know what the story is but if this was your friend you will be doing a service by providing information that is needed. Please know that we are all here to support you. you can count on your
HW friends to be here for you and give you comfort. Please try to keep from stressing yourself too much. It may turn out to be eaiser than you think. Anticipation anxiety is always harder than when you are in the situation. Please post as much as you need. I will be sure to keep on top of your posts and I will email you. You are strong. You have been through so much and I know God will
see you through this time.  Am thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers.

Many gentle hugs,

Aurora

Jamie,
Hang in there. I'm not real familiar with foreign laws. I'm trying to remember if you're from UK. If so, there are legal aid agencies. You might try ringing one up to ask whether mental health can excuse you from court. I know in the US if you are bad enough off you do not have to go to court. Sometimes they will take a video testimony or a notarized letter or just let you out of it altogether if it is deemed to be too dangerous to your health & well-being.
If you can't talk to a legal aid attorney, maybe see if you can get a hold of your psychiatrist (I know that's easier said than done) & ask if s/he knows of anything to either help you through this or get you out of it.

I do think you are remarkably strong, but as I have been going through a rough time myself lately I do understand that sometimes when we are already overwhelmed we cannot take anything more at that moment. Don't feel bad about asking people for help. Call the courts' clerk & let them know about your situation & ask if there is anything they can do to make it a bit smoother on you. By law (in UK) they are supposed to accommodate you as you are considered to have a disabling condition. Not sure what that accommodation might look like, but if the clerk has been trained well s/he should have an idea or two to suggest. At a minimum, if you are too overwhelmed during the inquest, you can always ask the judge for a break.

take care,
frances

sent an e-maill 2 our consumer action law centre. explained my situation, about the anxiety i am facing already, about the added depression on top of my mdd and bpd, advised that in such a place-court room that i will become very anxious, disturbed and possibly become psychotic. i explained my t1 diabetes, my cane, why i have it and that i can not sit/stand for long periods. i hope it is the right agency. i asked if a video-link from elsewhere is available under these circumstances. i explained that i am back in therapy and reliving this is killing me already, esp as i am dealing with so mich other crap.

reply 24hrs. all details given. net, ph, mobile and home detaills. will advise. jamie.

Jamie,
That sounds like you did the perfect thing. Sorry I got your country wrong. Australia has a lot of really good laws & policies for accommodating those with disabilities. Hopefully you will find someone who can help you out soon.

take care,
frances

Jamie,

You have been through a lot lately. I hope that things work out well for you. I am glad that your doctor is helping you.

You will get through this, glad they can tape it. Keeps you out of an uncomfortable situation in the courtroom.

Keep us posted when you can. Get some rest.

Hugs, Karen

Jamiee:  I am so sorry that this is happening to you.  I've noticed that whenever we are already down and feel like we've been stomped on enough, things continue to grow worst.

In reading through all your responses, I can see that you were given excellent advice.  Frances in particular had amazing points about getting legal aid and having advocates for you and your disabilities.  She was 100% right on.  And you have done well thus far in following her advice and advocating for yourself ahead of time.

I am so glad that both your doctor and counselor are involved now together too.  You have truly built up a wonderful support system for yourself.  You have such an amazing ability to provide yourself with such good structure -- I'm actually learning a lot by watching you.

With all that said, I am still quite worried about you.  From past years, I know how difficult this time of year for you is as this painful anniversary date rolls around.  And to have this inquiry come up right at this time on top of it.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.  Please continue to take care of yourself Jamiee.  I wish you were not so far away.  I'd really like to be able to help.

jamie,

take care of yourself. make sure you are eating right even if you don't feel like it. if you have to, get yourself to the hospital.

if the situation is that awful, maybe they just need to give you special consideration & not compel you to testify. let the person from legal aid know that you are getting much, much worse & that you really can't even handle testifying via video link right now. this is all too much & it is not worth losing another life over an inquest. if they need more proof, I'm sure more than one of your docs would be willing to write a letter on your behalf.

Your blood sugar crashing either means that you aren't eating right or that you are under a HUGE amount of stress -- I have that reaction on very rare occasions to extreme stress. It is very dangerous -- bad for your heart, bad for mental health, just plain bad. You are worth way more than whatever they think this inquest is going to accomplish. If you were totally healthy & could do it without all these problems, then you should try to help with the proceedings. But, that's not the case. I know it's tough for me to stand up for myself & just flat out refuse to do something, but I think that's what you need to do in this case. If they try to force you to testify, that's when legal aid & your doctors can step in.

If you need more help than what the law center can give, you might try contacting a local law school. Around the world many universities have attorney-supervised student groups who help advise needy people about legal matters. The students (or sometimes the law professors) interview you about what the problem is. Then the students write up what they think they should advise you to do & hand it to their teacher. After the teacher makes any changes and hands it back to them, they ring you back & let you know what you should do & whether they are able to continue helping you (e.g., by filing briefs with the court, representing you at trial, etc.).

Take care. You are a good person & we all want to see you come through this okay.

blessings,
frances

Dear Jamiee, I am thinking of you and hoping things will go easier for you with your situation. Take advantage of what the counselors and the drs can do to help you. It is not worth getting yourself so sick over this. If you feel this bad
maybe going to the hospital would be the best answer. Whatever you do please know that you are in my prayers. Time to take care of just you.

Hugs,
