I have been so depressed and overwhelmed. I have had some dark thoughts that I continue to struggle with today. Most envolve food. My fibro. is flaring again. I am just a mess.

I have so much weight to loss and this depresses me. One of the medications I take for depression makes me very hungry so I have gained a lot of weight. I will binge eat then not eat hardly anything for a couple of days. I get very depressed when I eat. I hate myself after I eat. The only thing that makes me happy is when I eat one meal a day and that is usually soup. Just like today, I am gonna try and wait to eat tonight and then take all my medicine then. I am suppose to go to the firestation and eat dinner with my husband. Not sure how I am gonna handle the whole food problem. He usually has salad and I can eat just that. That can be my one meal. It's just late at night when I get hungry...well not really hungry just so focused on food I binge. I was anorexic when I was a teen. I can't believe that I have allowed myself to get this big. And believe me I am big not just in my head. I hate myself. Only time I like myself is when I don't eat.

Hi Sheila,

Welcome to the depression forum.  I am not sure if you have posted here or not before, but I do remember you from the fibro forum.  It seems we discussed posting here.

When you eat, it should be in the morning so that you have fuel for the rest of the day.  If you eat in the evening, it is going to stick with you.  Eating in the morning gives you fuel to burn as you burn the carbohydrates.

I gained weight because I can do less than before fibro.  I use to walk miles a day.  Now I can just go around the block.  I try to do that a couple of times a day.  It really helps and tightens up the stomach muscles.  So you should walk as much as possible.  And every little bit counts.

Actually we should eat four to six small meals a day.  Carbs in the morning if you are going to have them and eat just fruits and vegies and some meat from then on.

Try building muscle.  Do some toning exercises.  Exercise burns calories and muscle burns fat.  So doing light toning exercises really helps.  And it doesn't have to be anything aerobic, unless you want it to.

I dance around the house, that helps me.  When I do my house work, I put on music and dance.  I know that it sounds silly, but it does help.

I went on a water pill for blood pressure and I have seemed to lose weight with that.  It is a slow process, but it is working.  You really want to lose it slow, about two pounds a week.  The faster you lose it the faster it comes back.  You have to make changes in lifestyle, as we get older, it is harder to lose.  So making the life style changes helps keep it off.

Keep posting and know that we do care.  I hope that you feel better.  Learn to love yourself.  You are a wonderful person, inside and out.  Once you love yourself for who you are, the easier things get.  You may not want to accept being over weight, but once you do, the process begins to a new you.  Keep trying.

Hugs, Karen

Getting By is right!

Ill agree that I'm not the most healthy eater but my whole family is over weight by a large margin expect for me. I counter out my small habits with exercise so I can still eat a bit unhealthy. Being over weight is not some one should get depressed about after all a large pecent of the population is over weight however it will make you sleep better and making you feel a lot better. If the medication is making you want to eat then stick to healthly choices like fruits. There is lots of healthy food idea on the internet and im sure you could find quick easy stuff to fit your life syle. I live alone and I have not gained any weight since I left so I think I do ok. Of corse everyone is diffrent and you need to find what works for you. I wish you luck on that. I have many fiends who are over weight and yet every day they seem so happy. The reson why I think that is is due to them looking up because they try where as others give up. If you give up it only makes matters worse if you keep trying your best you will find away. My father lost 300 pounds just from staying away from unhealthy foods. He gained it back and I asked him why? he said ''I dont want people to like me for how I look i want people to like me for who i am'' Now I slaped my self in the face becuase he had the wrong mind set. You should do it becuase of your own goals not someone elses. I dont know what you think but I want anyone I meet do it for the right resons. Just a different outlook and ideas take them or leave them they are just subsections.

Take Care
You sound like a really nice person I hope every thing works out ok :D
