Well I'm new to this kinda thing and not sure how to go about this but here goes anyway.

I have been dealing with depression for a long time. Been on and off meds for years.  I guess what I'm dealing with now is my relationship. I am engaged to this really great guy. He treats me great, yet I allways seem to say or do things to start fights.  I do not know why I do this.  I really love him and dont want to hurt him in any way, but It is all I seem to do.See, I am currently married but have been seperated from my ex for over 2 years.  He emotionaly abused me.  I was also sexually abused growing up.  I am also going through a custody battle with my ex.  I just wonder what is wrong with me that I am always doing this to to the one person that has never done anything but treat me good.

Hi Emotional_wreck,

That old saying, "we always hurt the ones we love".  I don't know why we do it but we do.  I think it is because we are comfortable with that person and we are ourselves who aren't really always nice people.  We don't mean to start fights but it just happens.

Are you on meds now?  A mood stabilizer might be what you need.  I started taking them and I don't do that anymore.  It might help you too.

Try to be open and honest with him.  Discuss this issue, it might make it easier not to do.

I hope that this works out for you.  Keep posting and let us know how you are doing.

Hugs, Karen

I am not on meds now as I have no insurence or money for meds. I guess I forgot to mention that I also just receantly lost my job. I am going to talk with a social worker about seeing if there is a way to get help and get on meds though. And thank you for the welcome.

I'm not sure if this is true for every state, but in mine unemployed/low income people can get medical assistance. granted there's a good amount of paperwork and such but it's worth it. I'm currently on anti-depressants and all i have to pay is 3 to 5 dollars each month. I'm sure a social worker would be familiar with such programs in your area and would point you in the right direction.

hope that helps some :-)
