I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease almost a year ago and have been thinking for awhile I need some 'medical assistance' dealing with depression.  I had postpartum depression with both my girls.  I took Prozac (the wonder drug) the first time, unfortunately it didn't work the second time (10mg both times).  I ended up taking Effexor but it didn't really seem to do the trick.  Now on top of my cd I am getting divorced.  Nothing like getting all the top stressors within one year (also completed my Master's Degree last year :-) ).  Any advice on a good anti-depressant?  I see my dr Thursday and am going to ask for one.  I would prefer to stay away from Zoloft.  A friend suggest busbar (sp?).
Diagnosed with cd 2/5/04.  Currently taking 9 Asacol 400mg, nexium and remicade.

I've been on some form of antidepressants for more than three years now. For a long time, I was on Prozac and it worked wonders for me in the beginning and for awhile. When my depression got bad again, my doctor added Wellbutrin to the mix. And that seemed to work for awhile to. But recently I went through another bout of depression, and my doctor and I decided to try something completely different. So he prescribed this new drug called Cymbalta for me. At first I hated it--bad side effects. But I've been on it for about two months now, and I'm finally starting to feel like I may not be chronically depressed forever. I had sexual side effects with the other meds, and I don't know if that's something that's too much of a concern for you right now, but I'm also starting to get a sex drive again. Anyway, it's fairly new, and it's called Cymbalta. And I really like it, so maybe you can ask your dr about it. Hope this helps, and good luck!
