welcome to Healingwell. Depression is a hard illness to understand but you've come to the right place to where people can relate to what you are feeling. Keep posting and venting your feelings. It does help.

What confused you the most?

Take care,

Laura

"It is not easy to live life sometimes and face the world with a smile when you're crying inside. It takes a lot of courage to reach down inside yourself, hold on to that strength that's still there, and know that tomorrow is a new day with new possibilities. But if you can hold on long enough to see this through, you'll come out a new person - stonger, with more understanding and with new pride in yourself from knowing you made it"       Kathy Obara

Welcome sherriedav,

Deppresion Confusing? Yes very much so . my deppresion is sort of permiment , or let's say long term deppresion, which means its not triggered by a bad incident i went through. for instance some people may have deppresion caused by some relative of theirs has passed away or lousing their jobs.

I have to deal with deppresion on a day to day basis. some symptums i got are mood swings, get irritated easily , lack of normal sleep, blaming myself for my past mistakes often forgetting the good things i do. loss of energy , sometimes even the will to live.. and the worst for me is over sleeping!

Ok the way i understand it, major deppresion is caused by chemical imballances happening in your brain.. which can significantly alter your mood.

And fighting deppresion there is many ways , i recommend excersize and geting some sun! it really helps. and offcourse company of good friends or loved ones, don't stay alone too much. meddication can offcourse help too, i'm sure i'm missing some other things ohh yes make sure you eat well getting all vitamins you need :) ( or vitamen Supliments in case your on a diet ! )

Thank you for your posts. I was haveing a bad night but my mood is a little lighter now. My main concern is I don't know if mine is chemical or from a bad child hood.like I stated in my other post I dont know when the real me left and the depression took over. That scares me because I don't know who I really am anymore. I see a councelor every week and am on lexapro. The meds aren't helping and i go to the med dr. on thursday. I've been on the meds. since december so they should be working by now. My fear is never coming completely out of the depression. I want to thank you both for taking the time to write and I will continue to come to the sight to learn and maybe help others at the same time. goodbye for now-sherrie

Sherrie, i think your deppresion is probally part chemical - part from your childhood , or some sort of mixture i think of those and maybe other causes!

remember Sherrie the real you is always there you just have to believe yourself and build your confidence slowly. don't expect giant leaps from deppresion, just make some baby steps everyday and you should be ok as long as your improving!

the healing takes time unfourtinantly and what ever the "Old you" is it will propablty not come back because we change and we learn new things everyday so that is not neccesary bad thing :)

Hi Sherrie,
Like you I have no clue as to the cause, chemical, past events, or something else. After many years I have given up trying to work it out and just concentrated on which drugs actually work for me. They all work to some extent, but then some have worse side-effects than others. Confusion is normal for untreated depressives, as is forgetfullness, irritability and a host of other symptoms.

Anxiety often comes hand in hand with depression in my experience.

Are you on any medication yet?
