Hello
I have been on Celexa for 8 months. I haven't had any noticable side effects at all. I am on 30 mg. It has helped me a lot with my anxiety, though I am not convinced anything will work for my depression, I have known people who have had mood improvments they associate with taking Celexa.
So don't worry about side effects - (I have tried many anti-depressants and this one is the best so far)
Take care & Keep on livin'

Thank you Mel. Great to hear, although not about the depression part, which is the main reason I'm taking it....can I ask what time of day you take it?

Hi Septembersun. I've been taking Celexa for almost 3 years now and know it works. I take it in the morning. When I first started, I had extreme tiredness and moderate nausea but these go away. Hope you also have an easy time taking it and it works for you :-)
Take care, Softy

Celexa has been very effective in treating my depression. It was the first med I took several years ago. I eventually wanted to try living without meds and went several years without needing it. I didn't have any noticable reactions or side affects while taking it. Good luck and hope you find the answers you are looking for.
We can respond to irritation with a smile instead of scowl, or by giving warm praise instead of icy indifference. By our being understanding instead of abrupt, others, in turn, may decide to hold on a little longer rather than to give way. Love, patience, and meekness can be just as contagious as rudeness and crudeness.

Hi Septembersun,

I took Celexa for a couple years too. I took mine in the morning and I did very well on it. After a while, I did notice a problem with libido . . . but I was able to get around it by skipping a day of Celexa once a week or so. The doc told me that it was fine for me do that. If you ever think about skipping days, you should always check with your doc first.

Blessings!

I have been on celexa for 3 1/2 years. I really did well on it until I started gaining weight. No matter what I did the weight crept up on me 1 lb at a time. I gained 15# which doesn't sound like much but I am 4'11, and normally just over 100#. so when I had to buy jeans 3 sizes bigger than I used to but working out 5 days a week and generally eating healthy/ lo cal I began to wean off the meds. Went to my Dr. who said weight gain was the most common side effect of antidepressants and the most common reason for discontiunation. From what I gather from other web chats Zoloft is really bad about weight gain. If you need it take it! It helped me with no other side effects except weight and that came on slowly. Good luck. Cross your fingers for me too. Iwill keep you posted. I you have any other questions about the med I would be happy to try to help.

forgot about another side effect. Gas! But that went away after a few weeks! My libido was better, I think because I felt better.

I also take my Celexa in the am. I am actually starting to wean off now...I hope there's no nasty withdrawls (like with paxil) I am going to see how I do without meds - I would like to have another baby - not now, but soon.

I remember after a few months telling a friend that i had gained a coulpe of pounds but that i was so happy i didnt really care. Then it seem every summer when you reevaluate your body, I was okay i need to loose 8 lbs. the next summer it was okay i need to lose 10 lbs and this past summer i was trying to loose 12 lbs. So it really crept up on me. But I am so short that the 10 or 12 extra pounds have made a difference in the way i look. The real frustrating thing is that it wont go away no matter how i change my workout or diet. I think if you keep an eye on your self and balance the benefits with the side effects you will be okay. I am just at a point where i feel my mood is pretty even and would like to get off the meds. The weight makes me more depressed than anything!

I do not regret taking it at all!!!! I needed it! I also went to counseling and dealt with some issues and feel I am better equipped to take on the world drug free now.

Keep me posted septsun.

Lady, I weaned over about 1 month and am off now, i still have a little dizziness. nothing too bad though.

I used to take my celexa different times of the day and never say a benefit of one time over another.

So it seems like weight gain is the big issue and of course, something I don't want to happen. But so far I'm only taking 5mg and it's been less then a week, so I don't feel any difference. Thank you all for giving me your experiences and helping me to be aware of the weight gain.

Also, in case anyone's interested in supplements, my pdoc also told me to take 2,000mg of Omega 3 daily. And an acupuncturist had recommended taking B-12 dots (that go under your tongue), 500 mcg three times a day.

Hey! I usually post on the Crohn's board, but saw a post about Celexa. I take Celexa for chronic abdominal pain. I am on 30mg, but find that when I take it all at once I am bouncing off the walls, and really restless. To correct this, I take 20mg in the morning, and 10mg in the afternoon. It has seemed to help doing it this way, so if you find yourself getting restless, talk to your doctor about breaking up your dose.

Restless is the opposite of me, I'm always tired. I take methadate 20mg (an amphetamine) to have energy. But I also have stomach pain and other stomach issue so it's good to know you take Celexa for abdominal pain! Hope it's helping you.

Hi, I'm new here.  Saw this old post.  I take 20mg of Celexa at night because I thought it caused drowsiness.  Why do you'all take it in the morning?  I have had no weight or libido problems.  Sometimes I wonder if it is helping at all until I remember my PMS moodswings from long ago and they are much more undercontrol.  I have been on this dose for about 5 years now.  Is it time to change? or quit?  How often do you reacess?  I have a family history of depression,so my MD put me on an unlimited refil.  I do have to really watch my caffiene and alcohol intake.  Too much of a good thing can really throw me off.  This time of year sucks, cuz I tend to drink both too much.  Coffee to wake me up and vodka to put me to sleep.   wow,,do I have problems.....looks worse in print......uh, gotta go. sad

Hey does anyone have a 'tang' of metal taste.  I didn't know if this was common or if I just needed to wash my coffee cup.  It says that taste can be altered, but I didn't know if that was what they were talking about or not.

My tastes otherwise have stayed the same.  Still like the  RedGreen Show, and wearing funny socks tongue
