Trying to figure out if my chronic stiff neck and back pain are depression or from my lyme disease.

There are some antidepressants that help with pain. I would talk to the doc or psychiatrist about it. I hope that you feel better soon. Welcome to the forum.

Hi PaulnJordansmommy2

I'm in agreement with Dawn and Karen. Depression can present itself
in many deferent ways.

My experience with depression ranges from isolating myself from virtually everyone ,to laying in bed , not feeling like I have a reason
worth getting out of bed , to the odd bought of crying ( yes, men
cry too ).

I think the important message here is that your doctor is more capable of determining if you are depressed , and to what degree.

Also, the fact that you chose to post in the depression site might be
your inner self telling you what you already know.

My sincere advise : ask your doctor. And remember , we are all here
at Healing Well to help ourselves cope with our ailments, and to share our knowledge with others to ease their problems.

We're here for you. Post whenever you feel like it. I hope you get to
the bottom of this issue PaulnJordansmommy2 ; that way you can start
addressing your problem.

All the very best,
Derwood.

Welcome to the forum.

Neck and back pain can be related to depression.

It can also be related to Anxiety and the worry/dread over expectation of coming pain. Lyme disease is for the most post a chronic condition with many unknowns, and doctors giving conflicting information.

This alone can cause the umbrella of stress that causes the next and back pain.

My suggestion is :

relaxing meditation. See mindfil.org Search for meditation for pain; coping with anxiety

easy exercise for pain, slow easy stretches

whole food diets; nothing artificial, reduce sugar, no alcholol, no soda, not article sweetness or colors, especially red and yellow food dyes.

No process foods. For instances, buy real cheese, not 'cheese products'

An appointment with Nutritionist the knows about lyme disease could be extremely helpful

Therapy. Talking with a therapist to learn how to life with a chronic illness. It can be done. You can learn to have a diagnosis, NOT let the diagnosis have you.

I hope some of this helps you.
Peace

Geez - I've been having fits of crying that go on for days, for the over two years now.

My wife tells me I'm depressed. Now we both have cancer, which just adds to the depression. I'm supposed to start Effexor in a few weeks, after some surgery for incontinence. This will be something new for me.

Had to taper off Tramadol, which I had been taking for ten years. That was rough, but I'm trying to take things one at a time. Been mostly sleepless ever since (4AM now). Hopefully things will settle down eventually.

Thanks Karen for the warm welcome. I also posted in the Cymbalta Experience thread in more detail (perhaps even to the point of rambling). IIRC you are on Effexor also, so I'll be joining you.

Overall I'm pretty happy, considering all the crummy stuff going on. Thx again.
