Woohoo!! We were watching a bit earlier. I am so glad the first time trial is an early stage--get it out of the way for Quintana. Speed is not his forte.

BTW, HT, youtube posts some interesting commentary re: cycling. Check it out!

Go Movistar!

Porte is good--what is it with Aussies and BMC? Tough break with Valverde's crash.

I get bored with the time trials--it can be hard to follow with TV coverage. I prefer the Pyrenees to the Alps,too--and always look forward to the cobblestone sections. Let's hope that the rain stays away on that day.

bring it on. i was a prolific cyclist in my day, and fast, hence big leg muscles. i actually got caught speeding down a massive hill when i was 15, it was like 3am in the morning, my birthday and my tongan friends gave me kava and boy did i fly, could not feel my legs at all. was on a giant. 21st gear down a 15 percent long gradient, i was moving. got chased by a cop car that i was oblivious to. he just looked at me and said, what ya taken, i said kava, he put me bike in the back and drove me back.... i was high as a kite and loving life, he just smiled and shook his head.

i could have been done for speeding, technically. but it was not an illegal drug, it is a opiate, however small amounts are available to islander people who use it in ceremonies and such. the root is the potent stuff, looks and tastes like dirty water though. i am watching as i type!!! looking forward to stage 5, they go up. sort the wheat from the chaff so to speak. kava u can get in tablet form, excellent for anxiety. but expensive.

Years ago I visited Fiji and was served Kava as part of a friendship ceremony with some native Fijians. I will never forget the awful taste, or the fact that the ceremony meant we had to finish the entire (LARGE!) bowl full. (Large serving bowl had enough for about 10 people, but we were only 5, so had twice the usual amount.) My stomach sloshed for a week!

Thanks for sharing Lynnwood. Sounds cool if you didn't have to have so much.

Jamie-Sorry about the crash today. I thought of you when we saw it. It could have been far, far worse, and he is a lucky man. Porte could be back on a bike in a month, starting to get strength back.

Froome is okay--it is time the tour got topsy-turvy. But I do like Aru a good bit. And, after much thought, I agree with you. If your team can slow down the peloton when something happens to you--okay. If a situation beyond the rider's control impacts several riders, okay. I am thinking of the tour back with Wiggins and Evans when someone was throwing tacks on the road, and a bunch of people got flats. And I do think the organizers need something to account for when a motorcycle, a team car, or a fan interferes with the riders. Last year's impact with Froome was terrible luck. But this business of neutralizing the peloton for the leader's fall or mishap is a bit awkward. Either this is sport, or this is a Sunday ride.

Wah!! Nairo faded yesterday!!

But this is one of the most exciting tours in recent memory. So many GC injuries has blown the field wide open. The loss of Thomas has enabled riders to widen a crack in the vaunted Sky's armour.

I wish we got it live--it is only on one pay-channel. Cycling is not a big sport here in the US. Any predictions? Fabio Aru will be on the podium--and I think Froome will be able to hold on to the podium, but not necessarily the yellow jersey.
