I took ambien for sleep and Xanax for anxiety. I have stopped both though I have a stash too if I Need them badly.
I started doing meditation to go to sleep. It really helps. Also there is melatonin. It helps a lot. It is a hormone. And we lose a lot of it as we age. You can get up to 10 mg of it but most people start at about 3mg. My husband takes it for sleep. I think that he takes it a few hours before he goes to bed.
There is always sleep hygiene. Like no reading before bed, dim the lights, no television. And on and on. Rituals help too. We have a lot more control over our minds and bodies than we think. Maybe a nice soothing bath before bed...
I hope you find what helps you. Another one my husband use to take is trazadone. It is an antidepressant too that he took at bedtime. It makes you sleepy and so does remeron.
