This is a very common symptom of anxiety/depression. It's actually one of the scariest of the panic symptoms if you ask me. I think the best way to get through this feeling is to relax using deep breaths. Also it helps me to get my mind on something else, maybe watch a tv show or read a book.

Rest assured that you are not going mad. This is a common problem with those of us with panic/anxiety/depression.

Hi noonespecialnz,

Are you currently seeing a doctor or psychiatrist?  If not you may want to find one or make an appointment.  It does sound a lot like a panic attack or anxiety which can happen in some people if you let depression go too long untreated or who are not on the right medication.  Please keep us informed of how you are doing....

I've had that too, and I thought it was pretty cool, I mean I didn't feel connected to reality and so what I wanted to be true became true (if that makes any sense). I wish I still had that, now I am so in the now that I am having trouble coping. I used that time (when I felt disconnected), to learn about myself and what I expected from life and why it doesn't work that way. Maybe (if it doesn't go away soon) you can do the same thing, try to build yourself because that is all that stays real.

Yea, it's like when someone enters a room you're in, they're a figment of your imagination..and then once they leave, they cease to exist...It's seperating yourself from reality to be in a dream world that you have full control over. This happens to me a lot when I'm depressed, so I can relate.

Wow you guys bring back memories. I had this when I was a kid. I remember being at camp and I felt like I had missed something or had blacked out for awhile (but not really-that was the only way I could discribe it)and everything was all surreal. It hasn't happened for a long time.

Being a child of the 60's now looking back, I thought it was scary, but kinda cool too. I later considered that it may have had something to do with my hormone changes or sugar levels. Either can play funny tricks on you brain.

The only time since then that I can say I had a similar feeling was when I got sick and my temperature got up over 100degrees.

Yes Punky,  I cant really relate either.... Unless I count went my blood pressure drops (which it does often due to my MSA).  I cant say that I like this feeling either as it is a lose of control and clarity.  My opinion.......
