Hi, I was wondering if anyone has had any experience or knows anyone who has had experience with trying acupuncture to help with depression?

Hi Pkc79,  Welcome to Healing Well forum.

I dont know of anyone who has used acupuncture for depression.  I do have a friend who used it to quit smoking and it helped (she said).  Then she went back a year later for help to lose weight which didn't help her so much.  There are quite a few that do believe in acupuncture and the benefits it has to offer.  I am a traditionalist by nature so I dont put much hope into these type of cures.  Take care

I am familiar with people that have tried acupuncture; also several that were firm believers in chiropractic remedy. I am not for or against this. There is a very effective acupuncture procedure for the aid of smoking cessation called Auricular Therapy; I am very much in support of that one, as it has proven to be very effective.

However, in the cases of mood disorders, it's proven to be very temporary and treatments must be ongoing. In some cases, there was no benefit at all. It's an individual thing.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend it unless it was administered, perhaps on occasion, in conjunction with the traditional treatments with meds and healthy lifestyle .... in other words, to be used as a supplement only.
Psalm 3:5;6;7;8
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;"
"in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight."
"Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil."
"This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones."

Thanks to all who have replied. I have tried several anti-depressants, seen a few counselors and a hypnotherapist. Nothing has seemed to work. I have been dealing with depression off and on (mostly on) for several years and I am willing to try anything. I think I am going to try the acupuncture and I will post my personal experience here after treatment. Thanks again.
