I am a new member. I have been fighting depression for over 15 years. Found this site in the search engine.  So I just want to say hello to all!  And each day is a new day and I am not letting depression take over my life, I try to control it.  "It" tried to take my life but I said no way! I realize now I can control it. It is a battle and takes great control over my thoughts, But I am going to beat this. So hope to hear from you all! Thanks :) Piano.

Hi Piano and welcome to the forum!!

Depression *can* be more than state of mind. Some of us have a chemical imbalance which can require meds to help retain more of the chemicals which are low.

It is great that you are able to control your depression w/o meds. The way we look at life certainly does affect the way we enjoy or don't enjoy living (the half empty - half full thing).

glad you found us!!

Blessings!

Thanks for the comments. I guess I did not say anything about meds. I do take them I am on prozac, I just had them increased. I thought I be smart and take half of the dosage, because I was feeling better. Wrong, can't do that. I started to feel really bad, to the point I wanted to end it all. But the medication does help, so I listen to my doctor. I do feel somewhat better, but I still have these black cloud days, so I try to control them the best I know how. I'm glad I found a place where people understand. Keep in touch. Piano

Yes, Oatmeal we all understand very well.  I too have had my ups and downs in dealing with my medication.  And there have been several times I just quit taking it all together.  Not such  a good idea...I might mention, but I personally have learned that for me,it is best to manage my depression than live with the effects of it unmediated.  So, I pop my pills every day right along with my blood pressure medication and MS meds and don't think a thing about it.  Were here if you need us....
