I am currently on Remeron for depression which has helped greatly and (soon) Busphar for anxiety..(if I can get my courage up to take it..scared of side effects starting a new job on Tuesday). The Psychiatrst has mentioned a few times that she would like to put me on Effexor, which she said is good for both depression and anxiety, and that way, I would not have to take two drugs. All I seem to see is horror stories about terrible side effects going on or going off this drug. Has anyone been helped by Effexor (regular, not the XR) or has a good experience with it? Thanks for listening.

Hi Rianna,  I worry about the side effects of coming off the antidepressants to.  But you have to look to the present time instead of the future.  I am on Effexor XR and have been taking it since September when my Zoloft pooped out on me.  I felt sort of jittery at first going on it like I had alot of caffeine or something but that is pretty much it.  I am up to a dosage of 225 mg which is alot but my pdoc has increased it due to my blood pressure in an effort to help keep it up.  I have very low BP.  If you have high blood pressure problems you dont want to take this med.  I do notice that I clench my teeth sometimes, but chewing gum helps with that.  Overall Effexor has been pretty great.

Hi Atedogs and Elisha,

Thanks for the positive replies. I may stay with the Remeron if it continues to work..I feel why mess with something good? If I have to take another drug for anxiety, than that will be okay. I have tapered off the Klonopin to .25 from the 0.5 and even the small dose helps with the anxiety and does not make me depressed like the 0.5 was. I may ask the Psychiatrist if I can stick with the .25 of Klonopon. I also grind and clench my teeth, as well as bite the inside of my cheek...have been doing this as long as I can remember..nail biter too. Probably from nervous tension. It's a very hard habit to break.
