I know what it is like to have anxiety and panic attacks. I have started four new jobs in two months, and have had panic attacks during the training period and have had to quit..very embarrasing and humbling..knowing that before..I had no problem with this kind of work..and now I can't even get through the learning curve and training period before I fall apart. What's really sad, is that I have a college degree (Associates and Bachelor's) and twenty years of customer service/inside sales and technical support experience..not what you would call perfect or the best of jobs, but they paid very decent and now I can't do that type of work anymore because of my panic attacks. I am trying now to cut back on coffee (1/2 decaf and 1/2 regular - trying to limit it to one cup in the morning) and soft drink consumption..and I am on 0.5mg of Klonopin. I have also decided to get away from the high stress customer service/call center jobs, and move on to something a bit easier. I had an interview today for an appointment coordinator job at a car dealership today..pay was only $8.00 an hour..but there would be no stress, easy job..that is about all I can handle right now..or I would have to go on disability. Please talk to your Psychiatrist about putting you on a temporary benzo if possible or perhaps Busphar for longer term. Try to stay away from coffee or soft drinks, sugar, as that can cause bad anxiety.

thank you Rianna, i have was taken half and sometimes hole doses of ativan time to time as needed, but i am all out. My phychatrist did not like to idea of putting me on ativan i acutally got the from another physician. SO now i have to wait until my next appointment on the 1st to see him again. I strongly don;t believe that he think that i have an anxiety problem which makes it difficult. I know the symtoms i to lower my intake of caffene as i know can sometime cause anxiety. My onset of anxiety happens sometimes during sleep. Today i had a dizzy spell. I am not sure if this is withdrawel from the ativan but if i ingage in another panic or anxiety attack tonight i a going see someone about it. I had read things about buspar on the net and at this point it seems like a very good option. I am going to suggest it to my physchiatrist as this may be what i need to get relief. He wanted to put me on effexxor or back on paxil there was another one or two that he mentioned but i don;t remember sorry. i am hesitant to try effexor and i didn't like paxil. I also tried elival but not of them i find to treat anxiety. Anyway i hope that i haven;t bored u. I appreiciate your reply Twiggy2

i went to my psych today cried a bit but i think he finally realized that i am under some stress. I am going to start going to counselling again and the he presrcibed me some ativan for anxiety as needed, the other option was being admitted into the hospital again but i don't think that will be necessary at least not right now, i will go to the counselling sessions first before go to drastic. Hopefully the couselling sessions will help maybe i can learn through theorpy relaxation techneques and get away from taking benzos and stuff. take care Twiggy2 The option however is open if i feel the need to be admitted to hospital he mentioned a week or so we will see what happens with counselling. I am still continueing to take my cipralex and i can increase it up to 20mg if needed as well aslo i am taking a multi vitamin everday now for about 4 days so i trying to take the right steps. Reply back if youd like. Or anyone can reply i am open to lots of suggestions.

Hi Twiggy,

Glad you had an appointment at your Psychiatrist today.  I too have been weeping a bit from stress..but it is mostly in the mornings.  Sometimes it can be a great stress relief, and very healing. Unfortunately, they get a bad rap because some people can abuse them and then addiction can occur (which is why many Psychiatrists and Doctors are hesitant in prescribing them at times).  There is no shame at all in asking for and taking Benzos..as long as it is therapeutic and you are taking the correct dosage, they can aid in your recovery.  I suffered from anxiety..tried nutrition, exercise, self help books, cognitive behaviorial counseling, etc..to no avail. Sometimes anxiety and stress are caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain much like depression.  Stress, caffeine, bad diet, etc can deplete those chemicals.  If the benzos are therapeutic and helping you, then it would be okay to take them long term I would think..as long is it is okay with you and your Doctor. I have been on mine now for six months...and am able to function..am still on the lowest dose (0.5mg).  Klonopin is good, because it stays in your system longer than Ativan and Xanax from what my Psychiatrist told me.  It has been a Godsend to me.  I suffered too long (twenty years) without antidepressants or anti-anxiety meds, and now, I feel I deserve some sort of relief..it has been a long time coming..lol.  I have been under a great deal of stress with being out of work, no health insurance, Dad's health failing and that he is living 2000 miles away from me, collection agencies (credit card) calling me every day..interviews, etc.  I thank God for Benzos every day, or I would really be falling apart.

Thanks rianna, i am sorry to hear that you are going though rough times, i asked about klonioin he said that ativan works faster i guess it doesn;t last as long in the body were as klonipin take longer to work but stay in the body longer anyway make sense i quess. At this time My hubby isn;t working i work but got about 15 hours a week the kids are fighting all the time we are flat broke and like yourself the bills keep coming and no money to pay them. Hopefully things will start looking up for all of us and you to dear. take care and keep it touch, if you ever need to talk i am hear to listen. twiggy2

Hi Twiggy - I think that is is great that you are able to work with anxiety. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I can do the same. I start a very easy (but unfortunately low paying) job on Monday. I am going to make sure I take the Klonopin in the morning and one at night like the Psychiatrist advised. The only thing I don't like about Benzos, is that they make me a mildly depressed. I guess since they are a CNS depressant, they will do that. I wish I could find an anti-anxiety med that doesn't make me depressed. One of these days, I may try the Busphar.

I to suggested buspar to my pysch but he said it would longer up to a week or so to get into your system but they are less addictive than benzos which is kinda why i wanted to try busapr as well if you do try it please let me know how you make out with that. Right i am not sure how well my anxiety is doing but ativan is helping to certain point. early in the morning i my mind races with thoughts like my mind is in hyper drive, i have not been diagnosed with bi polar disorder. I See my family doc on may3 and maybe he can do a CT scan or something to better diagnose my problem, i am seeking counselling and i have to wait a week or so until i can see someone. Dose anyone have any other suggetions that might help. I am on 10 to 15mg of cipralex a day and 0.5 of ativan 2 to 3 time a day as needed. which seems to help slow my thoughts and relax me a bit what meds are prescibed for bi polar and how effective are they in treating the symptoms, thanks to anyone who replies.

Hi Twiggy,

My mind races in the morning as well..right when I wake up..sometimes my heart will be racing as well..I think it all might be a part of anxiety. I also have racing thoughts when I am in the shower..however, I think cutting back on caffeine, sugar, Colas and coffee has been helping a bit with that. Maybe see if you can try to reduce this out of your diet. I also think that walking first thing in the morning, or late afternoon (without sunglasses, so that my eyes can take in the sunlight) also helps with anxiety. I read somewhere that helps with anxiety, by walking a bit each day without sunglasses.

I am currently on Remeron (mirtazapine) for depression and Klonopin for anxiety. The two has been really helping. I am not really an expert on meds and don't know about Zoloft and Cipralex..that might be a good question for your Doctor/Psychiarist or Pharmacist. Let us know how things go. When I took Zoloft or most of the other SSRI's..they seemed to make me more anxious...which is why I was put on the Remeron.

HI NSD gald to have you with us, I went from paxil, to celexa, to cipralex those two are about the same chemical wise but finally ended up and still taking Zoloft, started at 25mgs and worked my way up, at one time i was on 150mgs but my mind went haywire and it was brought back down to 100mgs and have been for about 1 year maybe year and a half, i still however somedays still get racing thoughts and bad moods but i am trying to use breathing techiniqies and use my klonopin as needed. I didn;t mean to worry you about meds everyone is different and sometimes it does take several different tries before the right one is for you. I hope this was helpful. Also keep in mind that it can take several weeks before the full benefits of the meds start to work usually 4-6 weeks if you don't feel that they are helpful after that period speak to you doc and either he may increase the dose or change meds, are you currently taking anything right now? Please take care and talk things out cry yell scream if you have to. Sometimes this helps in ways you never realised. Keep me posted as to how you are doing. We can chat back and forth ok you have alot of support here. One day at a time Twiggy2
