Do any of you watch Doco's on TV about the Animal world, maybe you or your kids think wow, thats so beautiful, Remember when you went to the zoo, when you were a kid, or you took your children, these animals are pretty amazing arn't they,

So what happens when they arn't around anymore, what happens when your kids have to tell their kids, the only place these animals can be seen, is in the zoo, there arn't any left in the natural world, oh we could have saved them but ..........

Japan, Norway and Iceland want to slaughter Whales again, those beautiful creatures that if you have had the chance to see them, you couldn't help but be in awe, and why do they want to slaughter them, ?, so they can have whale burgers, of course they say its science, but thats pretty lame when its openly sold as i have suggested,

Do you think they will just slaughter a few, when they already poach spiecies that are in grave danger of extinction

Japan has made donations to Countries so they can acquire their support, ie Cambodia, Mongolia, neither of which are anywhere near the sea, other countries, who are considering siding with Japan are Ivory coast, Tuvalu, the Marshall Islands and Guatamala, all poor countries and all given funds by japan to join the IWC and vote with Japan,

I have spent much of today emailing the Media and people about this, i am doing pamplets and will go out and hand them out, glue them to lamp posts, and im emailing pass it on messages to everyone i know, as well as Japanese media, i have decided not to buy any product from any of these countries,

Maybe i will fail, maybe not, but im trying, this is worth everything i've got, i believe in this, and i am sick to death over these industries, businesses and governments who take our world for granted, who have no face, yet manage to get away with it,

Our rivers and Oceans are polluted, yet without them we don't live, our soil, our forests, our food, our air, are all polluted, and what did we get for it, think about it,

I don't really care how this is viewed, i just know im right about this,

Just a thought... Are you willing to give up technology for cleaner air and water? Will you use transportation that doesn't use fossil fuels (think about riding your bike EVERYWHERE)? Will you grow/raise your own food to avoid the pollution that is caused by government funded farms? Do you know that we are learning more everyday about new ways to use natural waste products to create new fuel sources? You should educate yourself about the good things that technology is doing for the earth, as well as the issues that you feel are important.

Brownleaf...you are right in this cause.  It is WRONG and I am glad that you are stepping up and doing something about it as am I.

Scarletangel, the only thing I can say is that animal cruelty and abuse is totally different that what you talk about in your post.  When you know of specific countries that are participating in such acts of cruelty, the sites can not be posted here to further explain this, a there are not many options for one person to take to rectify this.  If enough people are aware of what is happening in these countries and made a personal resolve not to purchase products from there this could cause a boycott and hopefully put enough pressure on the governments to protect these animals especially if it is harming their economy.  There is nothing wrong with the advancement of technology but when it comes to the useless slaughter of whales for a countries personal gain...well that is a whole other story.

I agree els, scarlet angel, read it again, hes not talking about anything that you mentioned. But, what he does mention is true and very important. I know i will do my part to help him and i hope more others like els will too. Please read and listen, and help in what ever way you can.

Scarlet,
I live in the country, don't own a car, rarely watch TV, Don't read newspapers, a lot of my food comes directly from the farm, i try to return as much waste product back to the earth instead of a plastic bag, i use an apple computer which i believe apple have a very good recycling policy, and i would say that i am very educated on technology,
The Oil and Energy Companies have had technology to cut the cost of fuel and also make it more environment friendly for years, so why are they just now and ever so slowly moving towards this, where we can make use of it, and during the period they have had this technology, have had numerous oil spills in some of the most beautiful places in the world, and often because they cut costs with the shipping,

I can't do everything, as much as i might try, but how hard is it to shift the way you buy, instead of buying a Sony TV, buy one made it the US, if you can't do anything write a pass on email and send it to everyone you know, maybe they will try too, but the effort of trying is worth more than being blind or feeling depressed about it,
Several years ago When the French continued their blowing up of a tiny atol in the Pacific, someone had the great idea of a boycott of French products, One Media group got involved, and People responded, i was in London, where this happened, and as a Kiwi, i was touched because it was the English who were looking at products on the supermarket shelf and refusing to buy these products, i even heard a lady talking to herself, saying "ooh no its French" soon after France Stopped their Tests so people power is a lot of power

Thanks Atedogs

I don't understand what there is not to get. Technology is doing so much good for our world. Hydrogen fueled vehicles, use of pet waste for energy, and decomposing of plant waste for fertilizer. Would you give up your air conditioning for air as it was in the 1800s? Would you want the technology that existed in the 1800s? Seriously, I have emotional issues too, but you can't let them take over the good that technology is doing for our society. Do you want to live in an over-crowded society that inhibits your choice of how many children to raise or how much food you can purchase?

Thank you enigmagirl, i think you are so right and i agree 100%. I could live alot easier without an air conditioner than the guilt of letting something become extinct if i could help. I cant say to much, ill get to mad and im sorry, but scarlet, have you ever seen movies that happen in the future? if you have you would disagree with your own statement, an overcrowded society with inhibitions will happen much quicker in a world of nothing but technology than pioneer style. We arent trying to change everything in the world, we are talking about helping a beautiful wonderful creature that has as much right to me here as you or i do.

I don't worry excessively about the condition the earth is in from being mismanaged (although I think it's terribly sad). As a person that believes in the Bible, the verse at Rev. 11:18 will brings me comfort. Again, I know this is not a religious forum, just wanted to say WHY I personally don't stress over it as much as I might would otherwise...In my town, greedy developers are gobbling up land to build condos and offices and apartment complexes. Is it to help folks? As if!!!! It is for the $$$$$$$$$. They don't care about where the animals will live. They don't care about the local wetlands and the balance of nature. I collect old postcards of my town so that I can have some reminders of what it once was and not what it is becoming. The local beaches are now lined with HUGE condos. They build directly on the water, not across the road...then they bewail their losses about how hurricanes and storms wash so much of their sand away and then want it replenished-but not at their own expense. Yes, if it weren't for my beliefs, I'd really get down in the dumps over it, so when I get to feeling really upset over it, I just remember that verse.

This is all i am going to respond to,
Thanks for everyone who has supported this issue, and also Scarlet, at least she has taken a stand, so i respect her beliefs, while not agreeing,

All i really need to say here is Nature can exist quite easily without humans, but we humans cannot exist without nature, and while there may be an argument that humans are living longer, that is based upon a generation before TV became the big pass time, for many, before the overuse of medications and drugs, before we halved our forests and doubled our pollutants in the air,

i will add a list of Japanese companies that are not putting pressure on their gvmt, in the next few weeks, i leave it up to you to decide what you want to do about it

Hi brown,  I know this issue is very far from ever being over...but I read in the paper the other day (weds.?) that Japan got less then half the votes they needed.  It is only supposed to hold for 5 years though...

Yes we will, we can still put pressure on them, keep em thinking, and knowing there are people who wont tolerate what they do. I do know what he says is true, they could live wonderful lives without us, what would we do without them???? we couldnt.

There are a lot of issues the IWC votes on, where the whaling can be done, should the total ban be over turned, to have a secret ballot etc, Japan did lose a couple of these, but it also won by 1 vote to have the right to discuss binding agreements of the ban, meaning they may get the right to opt out using any excuse,

They are also threatening to pull out of the IWC, so the fight is far from over, thankfully there are some countries that are making a big effort with this fight, and its one of the few times i can say the Politicians are doing something positive

Contrary to what it may appear, im far from being a greenie, but theres some things that can wake us all, yes its depressing, yes it can make you feel insignificant, but the effort you make turns all that into something positive, makes use of the energy you may have wasted elsewhere

Thanks again for all those supporting this,
