Hi i am a 20 year old male. I can nevr pinpoint why i get severely depressed.....Is that normal? Its almost like it is seasonal for me. Every couple of months a wave will come over me and i will be very depressed for about 3-5 weeks. I have been on medication before but never went to a psychiatrist(sp). So i am not sure what is normal about it or not. I will cry, feel hopeless, have physical pain, become exhausted, and not want to do anything fun, become less hungry, ....its just really bad . Sad thing is i have many other medical problems and depression is the last thing i need.

Hi Piano,

First of all, welcome to healing well.
You mention that you have other medical problems. Sometimes having other medical problems can contribute to depression. Not everyone has a reason for being depressed. I have a friend and for people on the outseide looking in at her life, it seems she has everything. She suffers with depression and has no reasons for it, it just happens and she can't help the way she feels.
I do know that depression can come and go as its not the same for everyone.
I think you need to speak to your doctor about how you are feeling and consider some kind of therapy to help you. Are you taking antidepressants at the moment?
Take care and let us know how you get on

Hi Piano and welcome to Healing Well. I agree that maybe it would be good if

you could ask your dr about being referred to a psychiatrist. Also like Victoria

said you could consider some kind of therapy which may help you.

I wish you all the very best and hope you feel better soon :-)

Take care

Hey Piano,
First, welcome!! You will find a lot of good, helpful, caring people here that can help. I'm sorry you have to deal with depresion on top of other medical problems already. I have to agree with the others, you need to talk to a dr about this. I don't know if or how it might apply but there is something called seasonal affective disorder. Also known as winter depression. It doesn't always apply to winter though. You may want to look into that and talk to someone about it. Also try to understand that depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. It doesn't have to have a reason. Like Victoria said, you could have everything a person needs to have a great life and be a happy person and still suffer depression. It's an illness not a choice. Take care of yourself and keep posting here. If you do, you will find helpful caring advice.
