Hi Live-Stong,

I have never taken paxil myself but I know that a lot of others here take it.  I do know that people find it a very helpful drug and it does help with obsessive thoughts and behaviour.
Any ssri antidepressant can take anywhere between 4-6 weeks to start to work fully so whn you start to take it, give it time for it to fully kick in.
Some people can experience side effects in the first couple of weeks of taking an antidepressant but these side effects usually dissappear once your body has got used to the drug.  Everyone is different and reacts differently to meds so you may not experience any side effects at all.
I hope you find the paxil helpful.  Have you thought about any therapy e.g. CBT for your obsessive thoughts?
Take care

alright now i have a question...obviously i am very hesitant to take the meds because of the chance of having suicidal thoughts increase...now what i wanted to know was if i already had those thoughts before..are they more severe or is it just another case of what i had before? or is it more severe then that?

dear live strong, i am taking paxil;it worls extremely well for me;compared to cymbalta, prozac ..a really long list.paxil has almost no side effects in me, either..don't misunderstand it's not a miracle drug, but it does help me;it cuts down on the really down days;in bed, in tears, theutterhopeless feelings that are all we can feel when the brain chem. is off..i have been depresses since 12;then 2 yrs ago was diagnosed as being bipolar. i am not bipolar, tho; i have a women's condition..not too rare, but rare enough called pmdd..like pms X500.000.000....but predictable every month..like being pregnant every moth, then like having postpartum the rest of the time..1 good wk a month is the avg. normal time for women with this problem, which is hormonal...i know that won't help u, but if paxil can help with that!! i'd like to know how u do with the paxil, ok? hugs, painter :-) eyes eyes eyes

Hi, I'm new. I've been taking Paxil since 2003....saved my life.  I was diagnosed with severe clinical depression and anxiety/panick attacks. Non-stop crying; not able to sleep; food was just repulsive, I could not even watch food commercials; and then the anxiety/panick attacks.  I really needed help.  After, the first week on paxil, the crying stopped, but it took about six to eight weeks for my body/state of mind to "feel normal" - whatever normal is.  It was really hard to feel like "crap" and hear that "med needs at least six weeks or more to take effect"

Currently, I'm taking Paxil cr 25 and Xanaz 0.5.  It's been hard for me to accept that I need meds. to function on a daily basis - but at the same time - I'm so grateful that there is meds.for my condition, and yes, I gained weight....but, because I was under 95 and not able to eat....I'm not complaining.
