I have been on Lexapro for several years.  I don't really see where it has helped me much.  Maybe, just a little.  I was just curious about others reaction to lexapro, and if it has been a great help or not so much for them.  Thanks.

Hi Suzy,,
I have been taking lexapro 2 months now and it is helping with my depression and anxiety. I find that it has been excellent for me. I tried a few others first which didn't suit me and have stuck with lexapro. It has certainly reduced my anxiety greatly.
Maybe you should talk to your doctor about your feelings on the lexapro and he could suggest something else if you feel this isn't working for you.
Everyone reacts very differently to meds. Something that didn't work for me may be great for you.
Good luck with it and keep in touch

I took Lexapro for about two years and switched to Celexa about two years ago. I also take Remeron and Xanax as needed. My doctor switched me and I didn't really ask him why but the Celexa seems to be working. It could be you have built up a tolerance to it and need a switch but I would talk to your doctor about it.

Thanks Victoria and bluemeanies for your replies.  I am going to discuss this my next doctor appointment.  I have seen what antidepressants have done for some people and it hasn't really done that for me.  Have a great one!

Sexysue, the thing that you have not told us is if you have seen your doctor about the withdrawl symptoms.

Hi Sue,

Lexapro is a good drug for some people and it helps them. Everyone is very different and responds very differently to antidepressants. I tried 3 ssri's before I started lexapro and none of them suited me but I know that the ones that didnt suit me do really help others. What you experience - other people may not.
Lexapro has really helped me.
Have you see n your doctor about changing to a different med?

Take care

Hi, new to the forum and have been taking Lexapro since April....had taken it for about 6 months prior to that, got feeling so good I went off in February, then CRASHED really hard. It's been hard coming back. The Lexapro cuts off the highs and lows, but still didn't give me any motivation or energy level, just a flat affect.
Dr. recently prescribed Wellbutrin XL as well. I love it!! I am feeling much more energetic and capable of coping. Still not 100 percent, haven't re- entered society yet, but doing better with family and friends. The wellbutrin acts on norepinepherine and dopamine, where Lexapro is an SRI. Doc thinks I may need meds for all three.
I'm not a doc, but I really think there's more to this depression thing for a lot of people than just the seretonin.
All the best and great advice people,, I think I'm going to like this place.

yeah that is very right victoria . everyone is different . was put on seroxat ( paroxtine ) for 5 wonderful years . they upped the dose and i had a stroke . that was the best drug in the world to me until they upped the dose . i took prozac as well , it made suicidal . different people - different antidepressants . sorry but i did n't mean to scare people but knowledge is power . you can do alot with that power . you can live by their experiences and mistakes and not suffer in the hands of these powerful addictive drugs which has ruined many lifes .

I have been on Lexapro for 3 months. Was on Prozac for two years prior and that was absolutely not the right medication to be on I have found out. Lexapro has completely changed my life in such a short time. I can breathe now, I can relax, I don't constantly yell at anyone and everyone, I sleep regularly, I actually show up to work on time, I want to be around people and family. It's just amazing but again I only have my story to tell. And I have yet to have any side effects and no weight gain but I work out regularly.

HI I'VE BEEN ON LEXAPRO FOR about A YEAR NOW AND I'M DOING WAY BETTER THAN I WAS A YEAR AGO. IT HAS MAINLY HELPED ME WITH MY ANXIETY ATTACKS.  I STILL GET REALLEY BAD BODY ACHES. BUT I'D RATHER HAVE SOME BODY ACHE THAN HAVING A ANXIETY ATTACK WICH FEELS LIKE YOUR HAVEING A HEART ATTACK.  GIVE IT A TRY IT TOOK ME ONLY 4 DAYS TO NOTICE A DRAMATIC CHANGE TO BETTER.  BUT YOU CAN EXPECT TO FEEL LIKE SOME HOTFLASHES AND NAUSEA. BUT A GOOD THING about IT WAS MY DIZINESS/IMBALANCE WHENT AWAY COMPLETLY IT MAY NOT WORK FOR EVERYONE. BUT ASK YOUR DOCTOR SOMETIMES THEY MIGHT SEEM SLOW IN UNDERSTANDING YOU BUT ONLY THEY CAN HELP.
NEVER LOOSE FAITH AND ALWAYS REMEMBER SOMEONE CARES about YOU AND NEEDS YOU.
