My daughter got a call tonight from a teenage girl she knows, this girl threatened to kill herself over a boy!!! What should we do, my daughter does not know this girl well enough to know her last name, they only know one another through marching band. My daughter did say she is a cutter and has been to the hospital for cutting. What should I do? I'm thinking of going to the school tomorrow to let someone in the office know. Any suggestions!!!! confused

Your decision, of course, but I'd let somebody know - school, parents, somebody with ability to step in and help.
One of my personal mantras is 'no regrets.'  I'd hate for this young lady to harm herself when there had been a possibility that I could have made a positive difference.  By the same token, she may get ticked off if others get on her case and hurt herself anyway.  Since she has been hospitalized for cutting, her parents and doctors need to know about her threats.
Just my $.02 ... :-)

Hi Chartreaux -- I really agree with Wmnak (Martha?) -- you do need to let someone know. Do you have the number of the person who runs the marching band, or could you find out? That way you could establish who the girl's parents are and let them know. And I do think they have to know. Chances are there are much bigger issues going on here than just the boy and this young girl needs help. Oh, another idea -- did the girl call the landline or mobile -- can you check her number from that? Was it a home or mobile number? If it's a home one you could call her parents on that.

I really feel for you and your daughter too. To be told something like this and left hanging with not enough information to act is awful. I know the girl won't like it if she's "told on", but equally she can't expect for people not to do that when she is a potential danger to herself. And in the long run, once she's got help, she'll realise it was the right thing to do.

Hugs to you and your daughter.

Thanks so much for your replies, I was at the school this morning and talked with a consullor and found out that she has been calling other teenagers and saying these things to them and that they would talk to her and call her parents . Hopefully this teenage will get the help she needs, They were aware of this at the school and have been trying to help her. I hope someone can help this teenager!
Thanks again for all the wonderful advise yeah

Really glad you did this -- as much to put your mind and your daughter's at ease as anything else. I'm very pleased that this girl will now be getting help -- and I'm sure it's being taken seriously enough for that to happen and for the help to really have a positive effect.
