I have a question that I hope some of you can help me with. I have been severely depressed confused for months now and have been under a docs treatment whom I really trust. He upped my Lexapro today to 40mg. per day and then gave me a prescription for Phentermne, 37.5 mg. I have been bingeing redface really bad for a while now because of the depression.I hide all of my "goodies" in my walk in closet and I can go in thee and eat nono all I want as long as I want. I want to come out of the closet! Lol. tongue It has been my bandaid and therefore I have gained 35 pounds since June. Pathetic, huh? Anyway, I was just wondering if any of you all have taken these meds and how they helped you, or didnt help you. The lexapro has been good for me, but I don't know about the Phentermine yet. I guess I just want to know if it will help me lose the weight I think if I could get the weight back off, alot of my depression would lesson. Thanks so much for listening!

yeah  Hi, yes I have been taking them both, and they really work well with my body chemistry and all, and I dont seem to have the zombie side affects with them.  I take my lexapro at the beginning of the day, and the other at night, and I added doing a few excercises everyday, even after I eat.  I can tell a big difference in my behavior and attitude.  It takes a while to balance out in each system so keep it up and good luck.  you can munch, just eat more veggies and fruits.  Heres an awesome salad for you to try.  Get a big bowl, lettuce , tomatoe, apple wedges, sliced cheese, cilantro lemon juice a sprinkle of seasoning salt, and garlic, garlic, garlic, and top off with italian dressing, you can eat one daily, its a great food.  Take care.

Hi Baby, Welcome to the depression forum, we are glad to have you.  I havent taken either of these medications so I cant speak for any personal experiance with them.  I am wondering if you seeing a counselor for you eating disorder in addition to your psychiatrist?  If not then I would highly recommend it.  Weight gain can increase depression symptoms, but when your not eating properly and getting the nutrients that your body needs on a daily basis this also can increase depression as it throws off your body chemestry.  Please do get some counseling for this and feel free to keep posting here there are many supportive members always willing to help.  Take care

Thanks so much for the replies. Well, I took my meds this morning and so far, so good. I have been taking lexapro since late June, but I started out with 10 mg. My mom died June 23rd with a heart attack, and it was so sudden. My heart was and still is broken. In early July, my sister and I had to put my dad in Arkansas Health Center. It's a cross between a nursing home and a hospital and he is doing great now.My dad has dementia and is cripple. In August we found out that my husband has lupus, and he has had acute pancreatitis for about 6 years now. about a week and a half ago we found out that he also has sjogren's syndrome. All three of these are autoimmune diseases. I have come to terms with my mom's death, although I miss her so much. These things that have happened this past summer are why I got so depressed and starting bingeing.I have not done this before. I was careful to eat heathy foods today and I did not eat one single thing that is a no no. I have to say that I have kind of felt like the energizer bunnie today. My doc made me promise to go workout, so I did that today. I am eating a diet plan that my doc gave me, so I think I'll be okay.
Thanks dry for the recipe. I happen to love salads. I will mosdef give this one a try. Elisha, I am only seeing a counselor right now along with my regular PC doc, but I have to go back to my doc in 2 weeks and I guess we'll go from there.I'm also having to take about 15 minutes each night and write in a journal about how my day went. I have to take this to my doc when I go back.
I'm so glad I found this forum! Thanks guys!
Take care

Baby, I am so sorry about your mother.  I dont know what I would do without mine.  It is certianly difficult when your dealing with so much...I have MS and an Autonomic disorder to boot so adjusting to that is overwhelming at times for me and my family as well.  Please know that we are always here.  This is a great site for information and support.  It has helped me so much.  Take care

Thanks Elisha. It has been a very hard time, but I can't change anything.I can not bring my mom back, so now I have to try to keep myself healthy to be there for my dad.

My new meds are working. I can already tell the difference. My daughter called me today and she told me that I sounded 100% better. I actually feel so much better.

Take care,
Baby
