Hi all!  I am looking for a new antidepressant that does not cause weight gain, and may even cause weight loss.  I found Desyrel on another website, and was wondering if any of you have taken it, and what you think about it.  I have taken a lot of different antidepressants - Prozac, Paxil, Cymbalta, Wellbutrin to name a few.  Paxil worked well for me, but killed my sex drive and caused weight gain.  Cymbalta and Wellbutrin both worked pretty good for a while, and then lost their effect for me.  I am wondering if I should even bother talking with my doc about the Desyrel or (Trazadone) or if I am just a hopeless lost cause.  Thanks for any information you can share!

First and for most, no one is a lost cause as long as they are still searching for answers. Never taken Desyrel so I can't help you with that one but talking to your doctor might help you figure out if it's worth a try. Just keep looking for answers. That's the only way you can ever overcome this beast we call depression.... I'm still looking for mine too...

Take care.

It would be easier to tell people I have cancer than it is to tell them I am severely depressed.....

Have you been through lots of different meds without good luck? My best friend is on Zoloft, but she is taking twice the normal recommended dose. Zoloft didn't work well for me, either, but she seems to like it okay. Sometimes I wonder if they are all placebos that we are given! LOL!

I've been on Effexor for the past, three years or so. It's been increased twice and I'm now taking 225mg/day. It doesn't feel like it's doing much, but I know I'd be 10X worse without it. When I first was suffering with depression, 8-10 yrs ago, I would get very violent. I do not deal with that symptom at all anymore, if anything I've gone the complete other way. I know that drugs alone are not the answers. That being said, I think I'll probably be on something for the rest of my life to some degree. But I'd like to get back to that maintenance dose. And the only way I can do that is deal with the issues that are causing the depression and I'm working on that too. My husband seems completely out of touch with my needs and that's probably the biggest obstacle I need to deal with. I don't want to break up this marriage. It has a lot going for it. But I need him to learn to connect with me more, especially on my bad days. But I don't know how... So now that my husband is working again and has access to certain psych services through work, I am going to take advantage of it and try to get this entire family back on the same page. I need to do it for my son as well for he is showing signs of depression already and I'd like to head it off before it gets any worse.

And if they are all placebos, then we are being ripped off - BIG TIME!!!! There are a lot of other things I'd rather be doing with my money!!!!

LOL!  Ain't that the truth!!!

I know that I need to be in counseling, too.  The one therapist I really thought I clicked with started telling me that I needed to put my son back in public school rather than homeschool, and it really P.O'd me.  When I said, "No!", she just wouldn't back off of it!  So, now I don't know where to go or who to go to.  Also, I don't have the $15 - 30 a month it will cost and won't until after the first of the year.  But, ah, well.  Next time I see my doc, I think I will ask her about the Desyrel.  We'll see how it goes.  If anyone else knows anything about it, please, please POST!  I am really curious how others have responded to it.

Thanks, slowly!  God bless you on your journey!
