I'm 15 and have talked to imaginary playmates all my life. Now that I'm older i know they aren't real but they do keep me happy and keep me company. I don't have any friends but 1 who got left behind when my mom forced my to move to california so i guess that could be a reason. I don't get bored atleast. I made a life-size doll and snuggle with it atnight and talk for it to keep me company too. I KNOW that none of them are real but it's nic to have someone there to keep me happy.

Hi. I know how you feel. I was very lonely at your age. Looking back on it, I was depressed. My Mom and Dad went through an ugly divorce and I just withdrew. I went from being creative and outgoing to not wanting to even make eye contact with people walking in the hallways at school. How come you don't have any friends? What do you mean 1 who got left behind? It sounds like you don't think you are lovable and worthy of attention. You are dear one - you are! you have a right to be here interacting with the people in the world. It's great that you have a good imagination and have learned how to soothe yourself with your dolls but why not make some real friends too? What kind of things do you like to do? Crafts? sports? Their are a lot of group things that you could get involved in. Can you talk to the school counselor about it? You are young and should be having fun. You sound so nice. I'm sure that you could find friends that you could be happy together with. Please reach out like you are doing here at Healing Well.

I really don't see anything wrong with talking to yourself. As long as you know they are not real. I do it all the time. Maybe I do this because my mother talked to herself all the time and I just learned how to cope that way. The only bad thing was that a couple of times people I was dating caught me doing it and I felt like an idiot.

Mostly I pretend to be talking to my pets... they do listen, I think.

It's none of my business, but the doll thing is probably taking it too far. I would suggest doing volunteer work in your community if you are too shy to hang out with the kids at school -- a community agency would be glad to see you and wouldn't be judgmental.
