Hi muchafraid, Welcome to the depression forum.  I wonder if you have been to see a doctor?  This is going to be your first step to take regardless of anything else...especially if your wondering if you have a hormone imbalance.  A simple blood test can find this out for you via your primary care physician.  Second, if your experiancing anxiety, panic and depression then you need to get into see a psychiatrist who can one, diagnosis these disorders and two, prescribe medication and or give you referances to counseling and steps that you need to take there after.  As for the videos, tapes and books....this all depends on an individual basis and what you believe in and your motivation to help your self.  These can be good resources in addition to counseling and professional help but by no means are they a cure all for these type of disorders.  Take care
