Hello David,

I know exactly how you feel, I used to have panic attacks when I was very depressed I used to try to stop myself from having them but it's really hard to get under control. I'm a manic depressive. My old therapist told me that doing possitive things such as - sports, drawing, reading, writing basically anything YOU like to do will take you're mind off of the depression - also exercise helps keep the depression down so does a healthy diet. I know it might be hard to get the motivation but you need to keep trying in order to beat the depression! Good luck Hun!

Hi David,
Welcome to the forumn, there are alot of great people here with alot of great advice.
I understand that your goal is no meds...that is a very hard goal. I am currently med free, and have been for 2 years now. But,I find myself sinking all of the time, and wish for something. Getting off of meds expecially when you have bad panic attacks is very very hard. Panic attacks don't just go away. I still have them all of the time, and at times they get so bad I find myself thinking I need to get to the ER right away. Somehow though (knock on wood) I get thru them.
Are you currently in counseling? How long have you been on the current meds?
Do you have family support?
Lots of questions I know, but those are very important healing techniques.
Please keep us posted on how you are doing.

Are you currently in counseling? no but I do have a med doctor that I can call at anytime she does provide counsellings but at the present time I have no insurance. How long have you been on the current meds? I have been taking adavin for a year or so but only as needed, sometimes I take no meds, other day a half a pill, bad days up to 3 1mg pills............tried many other drugs paxil, zoloft, exc. but they make me feel very stranger and I'd rather feel the panic then walk around in a zombie state, I don't respond well to meds I guess. I just don't want to get hook on Benz that scares me, but they do work and I feel normal after taking one just makes me sleepy sometimes, but relaxed.....
Do you have family support? yes I have a great family that helps me in every way they can but at 3am in the morning who do you call? I guess I can post here if things get really bad? My wife is very helpful but I don't want to put too much burden on her she has some anxiety issue too but nothing as bad as mine.
Lots of questions I know, but those are very important healing techniques. Ask away I don't mine.
Please keep us posted on how you are doing. Any ideas would be helpful that has worked for others?

Thanks David

David,
I am glad that you have a great family that will support you. I understand not wanting to get hooked on the meds. I have that same fear (hence the reason I am not on them now). I appreciate you not wanting to burden your wife, but sometimes it is best to talk things out with the one you love. And who better to understand than someone that is by your side everyday?.
Please post here anytime. This site has been a God send for me. I had never been able to talk about my feelings and the depression until I came here. It has been one of the major factors in my healing process.

Good luck and keep in touch.
