Hi Justme4,
I know what you are going through.  I am at home all day by myself.  I'm married, and self employed.  No kids.  It gets really quiet around the house too, and makes my depression worse.  By the time my hubby comes home, I'm depressed and sad and even his company sometimes doesn't help.  For me, sleep is my only time of peace some days.....
I find that if I can get out for a walk, even 20 minutes, to just clear my head and take in the fresh air, that it really helps.  You could try doing that in the evening, and then hope for a restful sleep.  I also like to watch t.v. right before I turn out the lights.  Sometimes even a t.v. program that is light and not depressing ( no cop shows and that crap), can help me sleep too.
I hope you find your peace soon.  I know how hard it can be.
God bless,

Have you talked to your doctor about depression?

When my BF travels on business, I hate it. The house is eerily quiet.

I've tried to come up with hobbies to keep me busy - I enjoy papercrafting/scrapbooking.

Sometimes I make arrangements to spend that time at a friend's house. Could you have occasional slumber parties? You never get too old for this.

Places like this are good for keeping you busy so that you don't notice you are alone. There are plenty of supportive people around here.

I do think that time will help you adjust. I did at some point and loved living alone (partly because I could watch stupid tv shows and not be made fun of). I just haven't lived alone in so long that I'd need to readjust. Sometimes that readjustment is appealing...

I just read Ginny's reply. I also watch tv in bed, but some sleep pros say it's a bad idea as it overstimulates your for sleep and the bedroom should be used for nothing but sleeping. You may want to experiment. Obviously there are two of us here that it doesn't bother.

Stephanie, again.

There are some cd's that you play while you go to sleep, that may help. Or just turn the radio on low, or run a fan. Just something the provides background noise. I live alone and love it.

Times when I have lived alone have been deliciously selfish..loved every minute really..sleeping is not one of my best subjects at the best of times, but I do love being able to stretch out like a starfish on my own..just wonderful..always had the radio going on low as bluemeanies suggested...

Do you have a pet? I think cats are the best company ever invented for those living alone..they are someone to fuss over, they never tell tales even after you tell them your darkest secrets, they are smart and funny, they are great company and never hog the remote for the tele lol.
