Hello i am new here
Deb living in Vancouver BC
Long history of depression and anxiety, other medical problems including high blood pressure and high choleserol, now diagnosed pre-diabetic. My family doctor and my psychiatrist don't seem to be talking to each other. I am on a mess of pills and trying to get a grip on my blood glucose readings - recent A1c was 5.5 which is brilliant but my morning and after meal readings are still in the pre-diabetic range.

would love to hear from anyone who is on any of the following medications and having issues with higher than normal blood sugar readings? and any suggestions if you have any:
-imipramine 100mg/day taken at bedtime, on since 1994
-trazadone 100mg/day taken at bedtime, on since mid 2006
-remeron 30mg/day taken at bedtime, since Mar 2007
-risperidone (for anxiety) 0.5mg/day taken am, since Mar 2007

I am also on lipitor and diovan and have a med review next monday with my family doctor and due to lifestylye changes incl strict diet and exercise (40+lb weight loss since last spring) hope to eliminate those as they seem to be affecting my blood sugar as well...

thanks in advance
deb

Hi Deb
Welcome to the board,I am really glad that you found us.
Although I am not on any of the meds that you describe,my b/f I think is pre-Diabetic and I wanted to run a few signs by you to see if they match:
First of all his eating habits are really bad,he is super thin because of it. Has been all of his life. But,
After he eats a big meal he is basically a zombie. He wants to go right to sleep.
If he eats a lighter meal then he seems to be ok.
If he drinks a beer with a big meal he seems to be ok.
Then he has really bad cramps after eating and it all basically goes right thru him soon after.
Does not sound like any of your signs?
I have been trying to get him to the doctor, but he refuses to spend the money...grrrr

hi Shy
firstly my diagnosis was made through routine bloodwork at my yearly check up and i did not have any signs of diabetes.

however the fact that your boyfriend is very tired aft meals is a classic sign of diabetes (I have a friend who is and she is tired after meals even with using her meds. so he should be checked, it is a simple blood test.

the cramps etc after eating, i am not sure about. perhaps someone else here might know about that.

you are doing the right thing by encouraging him to go to the dr, diabetes can be controlled but uncontrolled diabetes can lead to lots of damage to the body.
hope this helps

Hi debwoo and wecome to HW

I to have diabetes type II and eating smaller meals though out the day really help control the ups and downs with the blood suger levels. I'm not on any of the meds that you are on but when I do take my morning meds it tends to make me feel off and bring up my anxiety as the meds start to regulate the blood suger levels but I'm glad to see that you are restricting your diet and losing the pds and do you have a blood tester if so you can test your b/f's blood after about an hour after he eats and see what his suger levels are.
