Depression has a very tight grip on me these days.  All I want to do is stay in my bedroom away from the world.  There are days that I hope I don't wake up.

I had gone back to school, but ended up dropping out.  Not due to bad grades, just my inability to complete anything I start.  I had a very severe depessive episode and was unable to finish the semester.

I want to go back to work ... do something, but I don't feel that I would be very reliable right now.  I even thought about volunteer work, even though I could use the extra money.

I've begun to see a new therapist and hopefully this will help, but in between sessions, I have to find something to get me going again.  So far, I've been unsuccessful.

HI Slappy,

A creative hobby is great because you can pick it up and put it down as you want and it allows you to express how you are feeling. Whether thats through painting, sculpture or song writing. I would avoid trying to play an instrument unless you have already mastered one since that can be very frustrating. Volunteer work is a great idea for getting you out of the house as well. Perhaps you could combine the volunteer work with the creative hobby?

Hiopefully things will improve under the new therapist and this is just a temporary glitch.

Warmest Wishes

Darren

Dear Slappy
When things seems so blue,
know thre is someone
thinking of you

Wish I could help everyone, who is battling with depression, and give a permanent solid
answer; i know the right medication means everything to my family right now... rock soild stability for 7 months.. has made unbeareable life,... enjoyable life....
my advice
FRESH AIR
-- walking every day, first thing... - gets endorphines flowing from brain & body ... responds...
I could use more walking also.

Depression for me sometimes has a root, or a beginning....
maybe try painting like somone usggested, or writting...
get what ever is bothereing you vented....
and then inhale FRESH AIR>
hope you have some good friends, that you can trust
to walk with you through this time....

ttfn

First of all I want to welcome you to the board,I am very glad that you found us and I am sure you will find the support that you are looking for.

I know that counselors are reluctant to put a teen on meds these days. They are afraid of the health risks ect ect.
But,if you do not think that you are getting better then I would ask them for something at least.

School is hard and very scary. But, you are working for your future and there will be brighter days to come. Healing takes awhile and you have made a huge step towards that....trying to deal with what has caused your depression in the first place.

Please stay strong and keep us updated

Thanks for the support.

I'm currently taking Cymbalta, Risperdal, Klonopin, and Xanax as needed. Yeah, I've been diagnosed as Bipolar along with the Depression.

I keep an online diary and get support there as well. I have a pretty good support system, but I'm just having a rough time right now.

I have many issues which contribute to my depression plus I inherited it as well; my mother had it as do all my siblings.

As for a creative outlet, those do work for as I'm a very creative person; I just feel stalled right now.

I realize that I'm just going to have to push myself forward at this point and things will get a bit better.

Thanks for listening.

Wow slappy...sorry I did not realize you were on the meds road.

I think that you are a very strong person to be able to write about what has caused your depression. It takes a very strong person to look deep within themselves and see it.

I am 37 and I lived in denial for a very VERY long time.

It was just 2 years ago that I was able to deal with what triggered it and to not always blame myself.

Healing takes so long, and that is why we are all here together. I credit this forum and my b/f for just being able to wake up everyday and knowing I was going to be ok.

Remember we will be here for you

I didnt realise you had been diagnosed with BP and were on meds either. Is it possible that one of the drugs is not being very effective and needs changing? The Bipolar forum can also be a mine of useful information. I would still look for a hobby though. Creativity allows expression and some people find that really help them... Just my thoughts

Take Care
