Does anyone else have a problem with their antidepressant giving them vivid or unpleasant dreams? It's practically every night for me and I don't think I get a restful sleep because of it. Many days I wake up so tired. I'm on Lexapro (for about 2-1/2 years). My waking life is much better on the antid's, but my dreams are really starting to bother me. Sometimes I think I'm going totally nuts...

Hey Bear,

I had the vivid dreams with nightmare quality and it may have been when I was on Lexapro which I took for about  8 weeks. They went   away when I switched meds. I don't know if the med was the cause for sure. :)

I have vivid dreams and I'm taking Ambien. I'm only going to take a half one tonight. I don't like the dreams. Their confusing and so vivid.
Wishing you sweet dreams. Dee

Thank you for your replies,

I am still having the dreams, but at least last night they weren't horrible. The reason my dreams are so disturbing is that often my deceased family members are in them, and it seems so real... I wake up very upset. I reduced my dose, which I do from time to time (with doctor's permission), but I guess I'll just have to wait and see. I wish I could be sure a change in antidepressants would get rid of this... I can't afford to go into another major depression with my new job training which lasts another 9 weeks... maybe when it's over???

(((Hugs))) to all,

Bear

I too had very vivid dreams, and they did not stop until about 2 years after taking the antidepressants.
It is sure hard to get a good nights sleep like that.
If it continues I would contact your doctor and let them know.

When I started Lexapro, the first thing I noticed was the insanely vivid, weird dreams. They were so bizarre but so real! Now that I'm on Celexa I hardly even remember my dreams but I know they're not nearly as strange. I think it's definitely the Lexapro.
