Hey Guys,

I have been a bit low this week and tonight at 6:05 pm our Interstate Bridge crossing the Mississippi River collapsed.  My son travels that bridge at least 100 times per month for his business.

I quickly found him to be safe and not on the bridge but the trauma unfolding through out the evening on television has left me in tears.  My son was killed on that same freeway and just watching the rescue and knowing when they were carrying a body has really triggered my own memories of how awful it is going to be for the families who have a police car come to their house to tell them the news of a death.

As a nurse I longed to be at the scene to help but they were well covered.

I guess I need a helping hand here as I can't pray for all these victims alone.............so I am asking for help for them.

I will fight back to get on track but these people that died will not fight again.

Thank you
Kitt

Hi Kitt:  My prayers and thoughts will also be there for the victims and families of this horrible tragedy as well.  However, my first prayers will be for you.  I am so sorry for your own loss and all the pain you are reliving.  Please let us know if there is anything else we can do for you.

A bridge collapsing is one of my major causes of a panic attack...I actually will drive on the other side and avoid bridges if possible. When I saw this on tv I could not believe it. My kids and I have driven over that bridge many times.

I am so glad that your son is ok,I would have been freaking out too.
I hope that they find the rest of the people.

Thanks for the kind words. The number of dead is still unknown. 20 people are still missing. At least 50 cars are in the water and they have now moved from rescue to recovery efforts.

I woke up and feel like I have been punched. I have early Dermotologist appointment this morning and have to get it together to drive out by that freeway but not near the brdge.

Shy. if you have been on that bridge you know how busy that area is. 140,000 cars a day drove over it.

Keep us in your prayers.

Thank you

I live in St Paul, and was frantic to be sure my friends who use the bridge were ok and they were.

I recently went through Hospice training and will meet my assigned person next week. Because I am already stessed and depressed, I have quesitoned that this was the right thing for me to become involved in now.

after this disaster, I realize that the dying woman I will spend time with is fortunate--she has time to say goodbye to her loved ones, unlike the people who didn't make it yesterday. It's changed my perspective and I think I will be able to deal with the situation.

In the twinkling of an eye, our lives can change, and life is so precious.

I am so thankful that He said, "I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee" and that we can cast all our cares on Him for He does care for me. Even when it feels like I am forsaken.

Korissa

I think you will do well in the Hospice setting.  Yes you will become attached - it is why you took the course in the first place.  But think of the blessing you will be to your patient who will end up a friend forever.

I am still glued to the news re the bridge and the poor families of now some 30 missing people believed to be trapped in their cars in the water or between the sections of the bridge break my heart.

All we can do is pray and hope they will soon know the outcome of their family member.

Bless You
