I started taking Klonopin for anxiety a few weeks ago, a fairly low dosage, just 1 tablet at night before bed. I briefly heard something about the medicine itself actually causing depression but my dr said that it won't. Obviously I've had enough problems where I felt the need to take medicine so having this depression on my own wouldn't be a shock, but I feel it getting worse and more severe for NO reason, other than my life isn't perfect...my life has always been not perfect, its not supposed to be, could this increasing depression be caused by the klonopin? I don't know what to do but I've heard of bad medicine pushing people to suicide that normally wouldn't even consider it...and I don't want to spiral that far down without even realizing it because of a pill.

I just got home from the gym, I just joined and went for the first time, and instead of feeling energized and positive about this good thing I just did, I just burst into tears for no reason...this isn't like me :(

Jenni

It seems that most anti depressants take 4-6 weeks to take full effect.
I know you don't feel like you want right now,but you have to give the meds a chance.

Take a deep breath, and just try to calm down. I understand how you are feeling but there are no meds that you can take that can "fix" you right away. It takes time for your body to adjust.

Keep going to the gym, it is a great healing source right now..

Just a note: it took my doctor 5 times to get the right med combo for me. Everyone is different.

Don't give up hope and stay strong!!! And remember we are here for you!!!!

Thank you....Klonopin isnt an anti-depressent though, its anti-anxiety which is much different...if its decreasing my serotonin levels i am in deep trouble.

Hi sorry about that,I guess I did not explain myself enough.
I took Clonazepam which is supposed to be the generic version of Klonopin.

Keep in contact with your doctor at all times.

Jenni, I'm taking just half of one 5 mg clonazapam tablet. I take it in the morning if I'm encountering or anticipating an event to be stressful or my emotions are messed up. I only take it as needed because I know how highly addicting it is and how difficult it is to get off of it.

Sometimes I might take an extra half. But I try to have some days off when things are quiet in my life so I won't become dependent. It has a long half life and stays in your body a long time which is why I can take it in the morning and it helps take the edge off of anxiety throughout the day.

I'm not sure if you were given it for depression or for anxiety?

I've noticed even this low dose damps down my emotions--not sure if I'd call it depression.

I'm thinking a whole one before bed is too much. It would be for me.

Hi! I have anxiety/depression. I take clonazapam for anxiety and Zoloft for depression. This has been working for me. Hope you find the right answer for you, Dee

I'm finding this Klonopin conversation interesting.  My neurologist added .5 mg. of Klonopin twice a day to my other seizure medications about six weeks ago because I was staying awake until daylight and then sleeping all day.  I was having my seizures during the night when I was struggling to go to sleep.  Adding the Klonopin has helped some, but I have noticed that I am depressed, which I thought was mainly because I have to go back into the hospital.  But, I am in just a kind of flat mood most of the time since I've been on the Klonopin.  So, you all have me wondering if the Klonopin is the culprit.

That could be,I would let your doctor know that you don't think it is working the right way.
