my daughter is 13 and is group therapy for drugs and our therapist has told us that she suffers from anxiety and depression. does anyone else here have children who suffer from depression. if so, how do you deal with it. she has also been so down that she has cut herself before. i too suffer from depression and i can barely deal from day to day myself and i just don't know how to help her. now we have to find a psychiatrist and can't afford to.

here is the deal : i see a psychiatrist and now need a therapist myself
she sees a theapist and now needs a psychiatrist

the money just isn't here for all of this. i have considered letting my psychiatrist go so that she can see on herself. the only problem is that i am bipolar and cannot come off the meds.

i guess i just need to vent and need ALOT of help

Would it be possible for the two of you to go together to the psychiatrist and therapist and let them see each of you for 1/2 session and then if they think they need to see both of you together at any time, you would both see there.  I know 1/2 a session wouldn't be the best solution, but if you can't afford all you need, you might ask the psychiatrist and the therapist if they would be willing to work with you and your daughter on a trial basis that way.  That's about all I can think of.

Good luck to you both!

My son suffers from depression,it became worse after I divorced his dad, then include the bipolar and you can guess how miserable he can get.

One thing that I have always told my son is this" I too suffer from depression, and I am the person that understands and will never judge you for the way that you feel."... that opened the doors for him to tell me what was on his mind. Keep in mind though, you might not like some of the things that come out of your daughters mouth, but keep your thoughts to yourself and let her talk.
Another day has given you great suggestions..hopefully that can work.

Keep us posted and good luck!!!

Hello, This is Kitt.  I was wondering how often you have to see your psychiatrist and is it for your RX meds only...............if it is for meds and they are working could you spread out the time frame on how often you see the psychiatrist. I see mine once every 3 months now unless I feel I need some help with meds.

That way your daughter could have a psychiatrist order her meds.

I hope that may be an idea that would help both of you. You are being proactive for both of you and for that you should be very proud of yourself. yeah

Take care and keep posting.

Respectfully
Kitt
