tomorrow i am going to a therapist and i am considering asking about medication.
i have depression and anxiety.

i was wondering though; wouldn't anti-depressants make my anxiety worse and anxiety medication make depression worse?

i really dont know exactly what it is all these pills do and whenever i try looking it up online i can never make sense of the information.

so if there's anyone out there who is takeing pills for anxiety and/or derpression could you tell me about them?

thanks. :-)

Hiya Starless,

It doesnt always follow that AD's make Anxiety worse and vice versa. Sometimes the right combination of meds (as decided by a health professional) can work well together and they can bring both under control. Combining meds though is not something I have any experience with personally and as such I wouldnt want to suggest anything as I am not a health professional.

Hi Starless

Darren is right. I was on a combo of meds to treat my depression, anxiety and panic attacks. And they helped.
Follow your Doctor's advice, and if after 4-6 weeks of taking the meds then make sure to let them know if you feel the meds are not treating all of your symptons.

Keep in mind,it is somewhat normal to have to change meds during your treatment. Not everyone is the same, and sometimes it takes a little adjusting.

Good Luck and keep us posted.

Hi Shynsassy,

I realized on your post you are med-free, how did you do that? I am asking for a niece of mine that is 20 year old and currently has an eating disorder, anxiety and compulsive issues and depressed, she tried many meds but never a combination, she is currently on effexor 225 mg, maybe you can write  a few words of hope to her as I see you tried quiet a few meds.

Thanks for your help, this challange is very difficult for her at the moment

Hi Judy
Is she being treated for the eating disorder? That is the first step in healing. She has got to inform the doctor about that, then they will watch what meds they put her on because alot of them will cause an appetite decrease and that is not something she should be dealing with right now.

She has got to look at her environment and figure out what is causing the depression and anxiety issues. Counseling is a major step, especially with an eating disorder.

They might want to put her on some type of combo for her different issues, the combo that worked for me the best was tranxene, wellbutrin and paxil. But remember I was in hard depression and would not eat for days before they finally put me on all of that.
I still struggle everyday with all of my issues, and it would be so much easier to just pick up the phone and start my meds again. But,being med free is something that I had to do. It is not the right choice for everyone and it took me about 20 years to be able to get to that point.

Good luck with her,and keep us posted ok?
