Hello jean, and welcome to healingwell.

First thing I guess I want to ask is why would you be missing three or four days of taking your med at a time?

I don't think you need to increase, I think you just need to take it as directed, and see how that works for you.

No one likes relying on pills, I feel you there, but soemtimes, unfortunetly, we have no choice.

It is really hard to accept that you need them. I can accept that when I am at my lowest but can't when I am at my highest. Unfortunately, if you have some psychiatric condition it will probably be a life-long struggle.

Good luck Jean!!!

Hi Jean
There are so many choices now when it comes to meds for depression. If you think it is time to change your dose or get on something else, contact your doctor right away.
You are treating your depression, alot of people don't believe it or not..but treating depression can be hard to cope with.

I had to change meds alot and some worked and some didn't...

Good luck and keep us updated.

I agree with Tammy. See if taking the meds as directed helps get things back on track. Missing 3-4 days is quite a lot and could have big consequences. If you do 6 weeks without missing a med and you still feel like this then perhaps speaking the doctor would be a good idea.

You are still dealing with the grief, that is common. Missing dosages will just put you back to square one like when you started. You have to keep the meds in your system for them to continue to work.
Are you in any type of counseling? I am a firm believer that in order to heal from depression then you have got to deal with what caused the depression in the first place.

Stay strong and keep us posted.

I have been depressed as long as i can remember been on prozac for about 9 years this time. I was first diagnosed when i tried to kill myself on numerous occasions i was 17 married to my first hubby at 16 had a son at 16 he used to beat me up it was my only way out as far as i could see at the time. Plucked up courage after having a daughter at 21 and he punched me when i was feeding her she was only 5months old i left him and never went back.My second hubby died 6 years ago through a stroke i nursed him for a few years before he died i have a 15 year old by him. I am married again for the past 4 years happily.I am 46 year old i was having councselling for short while after hubby passed away but stopped going once i felt a bit better.
Life has been a struggle but i feel i have come thru ok. I dont get the suicide feelings anymore thank goodness i do feel sometimes when upset and feeling lowl ike hurting myself but not killing myself.

Wow,
You have been through alot my friend. Abuse is something that leaves scars both mentally and physically for the rest of your life.
Finding the courage to leave and start a new life is something that you should be very proud of. I know from experience it was not easy.
If you still feel that your depression is not on it's way to healing then maybe you should really consider seeing a counselor to get help? Even once a week or once a month.
Since you have not changed meds in 9 years, then it might just be time to get on something else. You could do some research on the different types of meds out there, that way you are informed and can let your doctor know what you prefer.
