Just wondering how common lack of sexual interest is in depression.  I feel as if I am living with a roomate or my brother because my husband's attraction/sexual interest in me is so not there.  It could be months since he noticed I was female and still no response...seems odd to me and I know he isn't fooling around...just uninterested.  It's rather hard on the self esteem after nearly five years of this and even though I am in my mid fifties I still have needs and even the emotional needs are not being met. I know he's in denial of his depression but surely he can see that this isn't normal human behavior.

Hi Sunpuppy,

Decreased Libido / Sex Drive is a common sign of depression. This can also be a side effect of some AD meds though so that is something to watch out for. It certainly is not personal towards you but he will see this as completely normal.

Darren is right Sunpuppy. You can easily lose your sex drive from depression and from the medications. It can be very frustrating for the person and their mate. I can tell you that Paxil is known for that. That is the only one that I have had problems with but there are a lot of others. Maybe he should mention that to his doctor.
Please don't think it is you because it isn't. The depression itself makes you feel unattractive and listless. Therefore you just lose the drive.
I hope that you and your partner can work this out, just don't blame yourself.

I strongly agree with the others. It's important for you not to take it personally. If you still have love, genuine affection, and a genuine ongoing interest in each other, try not to worry about the sexual aspect of your relationship. I have fibromyalgia, and I'm on anti-depressants to prevent depression, plus I'm in peri-menopause, so my libido is very low.

These members wrote some very wise posts to you.  Yes the meds as well as the depression can lower your libido.

This is a tough one, wondering if you have a therapist for yourself as you need someone to be there just for you to talk through your issues.

Gentle Hugs

I just answered your question in A & P forum but I am sure someone here may have a comment too.
