I learned of this wonderful site from my father who used it when my mother was dealing with chronic pain. And now I find myself in need advice, and I hope that there is someone that reads this that can provide me with the direction and help that I need.

I recently became engaged to a wonderful man who is juvenile diabetic. He has been without insurance for a year because we cannot find an insurance company that will cover his "pre-existing condition". His doctor has been giving him free samples of humalog and lantis to get us through this difficult time, however the doctor will no longer be recieving those free samples. As of today he has only one bottle left of each medication. We are both young, (20 & 24) and I don't know where to begin to try and get him the help he needs. If anyone has any advice please reply to this.

He should apply for medicaid. Then start looking for jobs that have insurance through an HMO, or PCP they cover pre-existing conditions. Also contact the american diabetes association and ask them for advice. Sometimes the drug companies have programs to provide finacial assistence for people who can't afford their drugs-sometimes people end up getting very expensive drugs for free.

I hope one of these suggestions can help.

I'm glad I got a reply! I called a pharmacist to ask how much the prescription would cost without insurance and he told me a single vile of Lantis would be $85 and the Humalog would be $107. That's just too much money for us right now, not to mention the cost of everything else he needs.

I took your advice and I contacted ADA and Avantis, the manufacture of Lantis and they are both sending me paperwork to fill out to get the medication for free! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it works out. Thank you so much for steering me in the right direction to get him the help he needs.

Wow. I'm glad that I was able to point you in the right direction. It makes my day that a few minutes of liesure time and something I knew from work can really be useful.
