Hi boys and girls!
I'm climbing back on the wagon and I just wanted to make sure that I'm doing it right. Regarding water intake, does sugar free drink mix count as water? Does Green and white teas count as water? Is it okay to drink these and have them count in my quest for the 8cups+ a day?

The water here in California is nasty and I rarely remember to buy the bottled stuff. The only way I can "enjoy" it straight is with ice. But ice water's not good for your stomach, I perfer things room temp.

I drink the drink mix half strength and it's totally yummy (Wal-Mart brand) And I use artifical sweetener in the tea.

It works for me but I thought I'd doublecheck here. Most of the time I don't drink straight water, only a cup a day total if any.

THANK YOU for letting me "pick your brains". It's so helpful! And I appreciate your input!!!

Why not just buy an inexpensive water filter?

Most of those sugar-free waters are laced with splenda-and it sounds like you ingest a lot of artificial sweeteners in your quest for water.

There is some recent evidence, that ingesting sweet things- even if they are artificial- cause the body to start raising insulin levels in anticipation of a meal. That said, you may want to rethink the whole sweetener in water thing.

True Lemon, True Lime and True Orange packets do not have sugar in them, are carb free and will make your water taste citrusy.

A slice of lemon, lime or orange will have the same effect.

I drink from a re-useable bottle. I take an herbal teabag ( apple cinnamon is a fave) and drop it in the bottom, then fill the bottle with water ( not boiling, not even hot). The teabag releases a bit of flavor- it doesn't steep. I keep refilling the bottle as the day goes on. I use the same bag all day. A lot of herbal teas are fruity and, by nature, they taste sweet.  My guess is that you can do it with black teas also.

I have asked my doctor about this- she says that liquid is liquid-

I also asked my doctor and got the same response that Sandy did. However, my doctor did go on to say that "clear" liquids are better because they cause fewer problems with the stomach (less acid) and colon. She said examples of "clear" liquids are: tea, coffee (without creamer), sprite, 7-up, Ginger ale. Basically, if you can see through it, it was "clear." Colas such as Coke, Pepsi, Dr. Pepper and drinks like hot chocolate, coffee with creamer are not "clear."

Oops, I got distracted by kids and forgot to finish the title...I'm glad some of you clicked on anyway.

Okay, I'm going to compromise and only add 1/4 of the powder in the picher. Just so it adds a wee bit of flavor. My teenagers actually LIKE the sugar free drink. OMG!!! I haven't had soda for them in the house for quite a while and they haven't complained. It makes me feel almost normal when we can drink the same thing at dinner. Sigh...I'll just add water to mine.

It's amazing how much psychological stuff is connected with what we eat!
