Hi Ceebee,

Have you been able to lose weight when on prednisone? I have been reading your posts and am unsure?  I am still at 40mg of pred and have been doing low carb/sugar/salt but have only lost 5 pounds and I go up and down a few pounds anyway.  I have cheated a few times but have been really good besides that.

I have been working out and eating very healthy and just can't seem to lose any more weight.   I am so depressed about it which makes me want to skip the gym tonite and have some chips.

Beth,
5lbs in how long? Actually losing 5 lbs on pred sounds like a great accomplishment to me.
I lost 17 lbs in eight weeks on Pred-of cource that is a least in part to another med that I am on making it so I don't really have any food cravings. I went from drinking coke every single day and really craving it to not caring if I ever have on again-I don't crave chocolate either.
Anyway it will be harder then normal to lose weight on pred becasue you probaby will have strong food cravings and in general just be more hungry than normal but if you keep on with what you are doing it is possible.

Hi:)

I gained lots of weight with pred over a three year period but have lost 80 pounds on this low carb diet. The weight just keeps going. For some reason, I dropped 7 pounds last week. Go figure...it was very hard to lose weight before and never on pred. I am wondering if the weight loss ends before one loses too much. I am worried about if my adrenal glands will kick in after being on pred so long. See new endo this week and maybe he will have some answers. I was at the diabetic clinic and talked to them about not being able to eat any wheat products and they thought I might have celiac(SP) disease. I have to ask the endo about it. Anyone know what this is?
I am down to 15mg of pred and my bg level is dropping. They said I can start to reduce the Lantus. I took the regular dose tonight and dropped to low 60's and had to drink 10 oz. of OJ as it just kept going down. That just got it up to 70 and I ate ice cream to get it to 75. Took a nap and woke up to get ready for bed. I will check before bed to make sure it didn't fall again. I feel awful in the 60's.

Hi Ceebee,

That is great, I think I am going to get more into the low carb and cut out some more things. I just feel horrible and so big and bloated. It took a week to lose the 5 pounds but I have not lost anymore, I know I am eating less and not eating refined carbs, I just thought I would lose some more. Maybe it's all the fruit I eat? I have about 3 pieces of fruit a day and need to eat banana's for potassium.

Ceebee, I have a nephew and a friend's daughter with celiac's disease. It's the body's inability to absorb gluten. The usual symptoms are vomiting and diarrhea. My friend's daughter looked as though she was suffering from malnutrition...skinny limbs, distended belly...before they figured out what it was. That was about 35 years ago. Her mom had to learn to cook with rice flour as at that time it was the only flour that was gluten free. I'm sure they have come a long with treatment for it now. Good luck.

Beth, most fruits are very high in carbohydrates and need to be avoided during the weight loss phases of low carb diets (bananas, apples, oranges all have lots of carbs) If you love fruit and want to do low carb try some of the berries. Reasonable portions of strawberries, blueberries or raspberries are low in carb.

Don't beat up on yourself Beth. I was bloated and felt sooo fat while on pred. I don't know why the weight is going now because it is unusual while on pred. The diabetic center can't believe I can keep the bg down so much and lose so much weight. I do eat to follow my bs. If it is a little high for me, I eat no carbs and if it is a little low for me I can eat 6g of net carb. It works for me but I am militant about it.

I was told yesterday, that a non-diabetic A1c is 4.5 to 5.5 but as a diabetic I should be 6.5. Go figure, I want to keep my A1c to non-diabetic levels or what is the sense of this?? If you had cancer, would they fix you to have just a little cancer and not be as healthy as someone who didn't have cancer?? Take care:)
