Hi,

I went in for my follow up after my doc changed me off of Avandamet to only metformin (same dose as in the Avandamet), and lower (1/2 of the original) dose of bp med (enalapril). She said it had been 3 months, so redid my bloodwork to see how I was doing. All of my lipid numbers are continuing to drop, but my HbA1c is up to 6.1 from 5.6 in February (and a year ago). I'm happy that my cholesterol numbers are in the normal range for the first time EVER, but I'm worried about the 6.1. The sheet says I'm still below goal, but I'm still worried. I'm still having issues with HIGHS in the AM and lows in the afternoon. My sugar readings are continuing to be all over the place since I started my bp med. It's a shame that this happened, because my sugar readings had been very stable until the high bp started. My bp reading was nearly normal on my visit....

(results... Cholesterol 193 down from 219, Triglycerides 166 down from 208, HDL 51 down from 52, LDL 108 down from 125, A1c 6.1 up from 5.6)

Doc's comment: Doing great!

What do you all think?

Might have some dawn phenomenon going on, might need an evening snack... How does the food plan look?

I definitely have dawn phenomenon, but I've had that all along. The food plan has been pretty much the same as it was 3 months ago, but the meds have changed. The problem with the meds after the bp meds were added was that I felt horrible in the afternoon and my sugars would get LOW... in the 50's and 60's many days. So my doc cut out the Avandia part of my diabetes med, kept the metformin the same and cut my bp dose in half. My bp's ok and the lows are not so low now, but my A1c went up. I've tried cutting out all carbs, but I just can't do it. I feel awful when I don't eat some carbs (not meaning just veggies). The carbs I eat are mainly beans, whole grain bread, and very rarely brown rice. I also have dreamfields pasta sometimes. I try to eat just meat and salad or veggies most evenings, but in the daytime I feel weak without some carbs...

Hi Bear, I'm glad your doctor is willing to work with you on regulating the meds.  Good luck with that!  But I'm glad your lab tests have come out fine.
