I'm new to this forum (or any forum for that matter!).
I started on Byetta one week ago.
I'm very discouraged.
I've got nausea & my BS numbers are up!!!
Fasting BS was 225 this AM!
My weight has not moved either.
I feel I'm eating more carbs to settle my stomach.
Crackers, toast, etc.
I had been on 100 units of Lantus at night & 1 Actos in the AM.
Dr. dropped me to 70 of Lantus & 1/2 Actos.
I put my Actos back to 1 per AM.
My Hgb A1c has run between 6.8-7.8 over the past 9 months.
I'm 53 y.o. female that was diagnosed when I was 45.
Had breast cancer 3 & 1/2 years ago & lost 45 lbs during treatment.
Yes, I'm still 70 lbs overweight & don't exercise as I should.
Anyone with a similar experience or any word of wisdom forme.
I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum, heylank.  I can't help you with sorting out your meds, but I gave your post a subject line so you can attract more replies. I'm sure others will chime in soon.

Hi:)

My endo has me cutting my Lantus 3 units at a time. Maybe a 25% cut on the Lantus is too much at a time. You may need more time for your system to adjust and to change your eating habits according to the cut in meds. Talk to you doctor about cutting meds slower. Take care:)

CeeBee-

Thanks for the reply.
I think your endo has the right idea.
What has been your diabetic road been like?
How's the byetta going for you?
Is weight an issue with you?

Hi:)

I have had prednisone induced diabetes since October 2007. I almost died in ketoacidosis with a bg of 827 before I was diagnosed. I am on Metformin, Januvia and Lantus. Januvia is sort of a pill Byetta but is not suppose to make you lose weight. I have lost 100 pounds since October with the low carb diet I have learned in this forum. I really changed my eating habits with help I got here. I keep my bg 70 to 100 but sometimes go up a little after I take the pred. I am almost off the pred now and sometimes get lows so am tapering off the Lantus. It has been a long road with this disease. My Mom and most of her 12 siblings had it and my older sister died of complication of diabetes at 49. I have seen enough to be scared into doing all I can to educate myself and learn what makes my body work. Keep coming here as there is so much you can learn from all the great people here. We all share a cause...to beat this disease. Take care:)

Hi-

My diabetes went crazy when I took prednisone, also.
That's how I got started on Insulin.
I bet you were scared with those numbers.
I can't imagine how you physically felt @ 827 BG!
Getting my weight down I know is key.
I've been doing good with watching my intake.
I think I should be stricter with the low carb aspect.
When I have done an Atkins type diet,
I tend to just eat tons of calories in low carb foods.
How did you get 100 lbs. off in less than a year?

Heylank78

Thanks.
