Hi everyone. I've just been diagnosed with Type II and have been searching the internet for all sorts of advice and information. I would like to try to manage this through diet and exercise and other "natural" means. I've read fennugreek and cinnamon might help, in addition to dietary changes. Any other tips you've seen? Any other advice for this newbie?!

Welcome to HealingWell, cameronbuss.  It's a very good idea to learn everything you can about diabetes.  Please search back through our many topics here from the past for suggestions on how to eat and exercise.  While it might be possible to manage diabetes through diet and exercise, it might not work for everyone.  I would also suggest that depending on any "natural" way like taking herbs or spices is not a proven way to control blood sugar.  What are your typical blood sugar readings?  How were you diagnosed?  What have you been eating?

Thanks Lanie. I was diagnosed after a routine physical/blood test. My blood sugar is typically around 180. I'm a bit overweight, so I'm working on that, as well.

cameronbuss,

Any time your blood sugar is over 150 more than two hours after a meal you are doing permanent damage to your eyes, kidneys, coronary arteries and the circulation in your hands and feet. If you have a good doctor you should be started on meds immediately. If your doctor wants to wait then you need a new doctor. Your numbers are doing damage as we write.
