I guess this is not surprising.  Both hypo- and hyperglycemia are bad.  Maybe hyperglycemia takes a longer time to kill our bodies: pancreas, liver, kidneys, eyes, circulation and heart, but hypoglycemia may cause heart attacks more quickly.  Either way, isn't this scary?
