I started Januvia 1 week ago,and have since started experiencing constipation. This is the only new med I have taken in several years so I'm thinking it is the cause of my problem.Anyone else out there on Januvia experience constipation?.I take it along with metaformin and starlix and it seems to help, but it isn't worth suffering constipation over. Thanks in advance for the input.ps stool softeners don't help a bit.Ed

Hi Ed, sorry it's taken so long for a response.  I don't take Januvia, so I don't know from personal experience.  The Januvia website doesn't list constipation as a side-effect but that doesn't mean it can't affect a person that way.  You could ask the pharmacist about that and the combination of all the drugs to see if that's why.  Sorry.

Hi Ed,

I do take Januvia and didn't experience any constipation. I take it along with Actos and metformin. Constipation is also a sign of dehyration. I was told to make sure to drink plenty of fluids.

Hello Ed.  I started taking Januvia about a month ago.  I too am experiencing chronic constipation (for the last 3 weeks).  It seems I don't even have the urge to use the bathroom and I have no stomach pains.  My doctor has put me on medication for the constipation.  I also take metaformin and glipizide.  I’ve asked around and everyone I talk to say that constipation is not a side effect of the Januvia.  This could just be a coincidence or maybe not.

I am on Metformin and Januvia and have the same problem. I was told neither of these had that problem associated with them...HMMM, then why do so many have the same problem?? I think doctors do not take into consideration that everyone's body works differently. Januvia, being relatively new just may be the problem. Just my thought:)

Hello All.  I stopped taking the Januvia yesterday.  I had several bowel movements yesterday and today.  yeah   This may all be a coincidence but, I'm not going back on the Januvia.  This morning I added to breakfast, several warm prunes and a couple of cups of coffee.  By afternoon, I was in the bathroom - Several times.  I've placed a call to my doctor to let him know that I will not be going back on the Januvia.  Strangely enough, my counts were great (for me) before (111) and after breakfast (120) - Even lower today.  I'll keep you posted. VIEW IMAGE
